The September Trivia Pages are now ready for your viewing pleasure To the Top WELCOME TO "CHARS WORLD" (STINKY FEET CHEESE) When Haley was a tot she would make a funny face when we would put parmesan cheese on our spaghetti so I would tell her it was "stinky feet cheese" and tickle her feet. So now we call Parmesan "stinky feet cheese." Knowing this here is the beginning of one of Chars days: First off as most of you know I am diabetic so my shoes are very important as to how they affect my feet. I have a pair of fabulous flip flops that I could walk in for miles and still be comfortable. Well they finally have seen their last days. So I went shopping for a new pair. I mean I went Everywhere! No more like them anywhere!! I couldn't believe it. How could they stop making "MY MOST COMFORTABLE SHOES?" As I shopped and shopped for days I finally settled for a pair of quite expensive ones that was as close to what I wanted as I could get. After a few days I was getting pretty used to them and figured they would be ok. The time came to let some water out of Haley's pool and clean and add chemicals so as I drained some water they got wet. Oh well my others would last through anything so these should too. (RIGHT?) My son Scott was staying with us and believe me he can have some real "STINKY FEET" after coming in from work with his boots, so I always made him remove his socks and boots at the back door where the laundry room is. I just knew he had sneaked in the house with those ungodly socks with a stench of gag! Every so often I would smell "THE SMELL." I looked and looked and couldn't find it. Under the couch, under the chairs, in the closets, anyplace they may have fallen. To no avail I found no socks! Well the smell seemed to come and go. Even when I was in the car driving I would smell "THE SMELL." Well One day Jonna and I had a very important appointment in Daytona and as we were driving I asked her if she could smell anything. She said yes 16 cans of a horses BUTT! We looked around and still nothing. We checked the bottom of our shoes for some remains of waste and nothing. As I was driving when I reached down to check the bottom of my shoes, "THERE IT WAS!!!" OH MY GOSH! It's me!! My new shoes had gotten a smell from getting wet. Jonna said Mom you can't get that kind of shoe wet! Now what was I going to do? There would be several people at this appointment. Oh wow! Jonna said "Good Lord Mom You should consider spending a dollar on a new pair of flip flops." So we stopped at a dollar store and got a cheap pair of flip flops and some foot cleaner! Here we go...yep found the flip flops, threw stinky feet ones in the trunk and cleaned my feet with hand cleaner. Off we went. I know I could still smell it even through the trunk of the car. We made our appointment and got home. I set these wonderful smelly things outside and when Haley came home from school she said, " OH WOW WE'RE HAVING SPAGHETTI, I SMELL THE STINKY FEET CHEESE!" Charla from Deland, FL I want to say a special THANK YOU to my MOM FL Marie. She is one of a kind. I tell her about things and she comes up with what I need before I have a chance to get it. She is there for me when I need her help with Haley and transportation to or from school. She has a Genuine Love and Concern for me and my family as if she gave birth to me. She listens to me without a word of criticism (unless I need it) and then she handles it with Love. She let's my tears flow without making me feel like I am being too emotional. I thank God He gave her to us and I Just want to say THANK YOU MOM I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! Your Daughter Charla Are you interested in reading about Canada? Sharon from Paradise Island, aka Vancouver Island, BC, Canada To the Top Common Expressions Chip on your shoulder Meaning:A perceived grievance or sense of inferiority. Origin The word chip has several meanings; the one that we are concerned with here is the earliest known of these, namely 'a small piece of wood, as might be chopped, or chipped, from a larger block'. The phrase 'a chip on one's shoulder' is reported as originating with the nineteenth century U.S. practice of spoiling for a fight by carrying a chip of wood on one's shoulder, daring others to knock it off. This suggested derivation has more than the whiff of folk-etymology about it. Anyone who might be inclined to doubt that origin can take heart from an alternative theory. This relates to working practices in the British Royal Dockyards in the 18th century. In Day and Lunn's The History of Work and Labour Relations in the Royal Dockyards, 1999, the authors report that the standing orders of the [Royal] Navy Board for August 1739 included this ruling: "Shipwrights to be allowed to bring [chips] on their shoulders near to the dock gates, there to be inspected by officers". The permission to remove surplus timber for firewood or building material was a substantial perk of the job for the dock workers. A subsequent standing order, in May 1753, ruled that only chips that could be carried under one arm were allowed to be removed. This limited the amount of timber that could be taken and the shipwrights were not best pleased about the revoking of their previous benefit. Three years later, for this and other reasons, they went on strike. Hattendorf, Knight et al., in British Naval Documents, 1204 - 1960, record a letter which was sent by Chatham Dockyard officers to the Navy Board, relating to the 1756 dockyard workers' strike at Chatham. The letter records a comment made by a shipwright who was stopped at the yard's gates: "Are not the chips mine? I will not lower them." It goes on to report that "Immediately the main body pushed on with their chips on their shoulders." That's a nice story and does connect an incident concerning chips and shoulders with a belligerent attitude. We need to be a little wary of swallowing that derivation whole however. The problem with it is that the phrase isn't known to be recorded in print in England with its figurative meaning anywhere near the 18th century. The first such record by an English author doesn't seem to be until the 1930s in fact, in Somerset Maugham's Gentleman in the Parlour: "He was a man with a chip on his shoulder. Everyone seemed in a conspiracy to slight or injure him." A gap of nearly 200 years between the use of a phrase and the incident that supposedly spawned it in the same country is hard to explain. In my humble opinion, the 'chips on shoulders' report dating from 1756 refer literally to just that, chips carried on shoulders. There's no evidence at all to suggest 'a chip on one's shoulder' existed as a figurative phrase until the 19th century. The confrontational challenge to knock a chip of wood off someone's shoulder does after all appear to be the correct derivation. Circumstantial evidence is all we have to go on here, but that clearly points to a 19th century US coinage. The earliest printed citations that I can find that refer to chips on shoulders are all from America, which the OED states quite firmly to be the source of the phrase. For example: The American writer and historian James Kirke Paulding's Letters from the South, 1817: "A man rode furiously by on horseback, and swore he'd be d----d if he could not lick any man who dared to crook his elbow at him. This, it seems, is equivalent to throwing the glove in days of yore, or to the boyish custom of knocking a chip off the shoulder." In 1830 the New York newspaper The Long Island Telegraph printed this: "When two churlish boys were determined to fight, a chip would be placed on the shoulder of one, and the other demanded to knock it off at his peril." The actual phrase 'chip on his shoulder' appears a little later, in the Weekly Oregonian 1855: "Leland, in his last issue, struts out with a chip on his shoulder, and dares Bush to knock it off." A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown ostrich behind him. The waitress asks them for their orders. The man says, 'A hamburger, fries and a coke,' and turns to the ostrich, 'What's yours?' 'I'll have the same,' says the ostrich. A short time later the waitress returns with the order 'That will be $9.40 please,' and the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment. The next day, the man and the ostrich come again and the man says, 'A hamburger, fries and a coke.' The ostrich says, 'I'll have the same.' Again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change. This becomes routine until the two enter again. 'The usual?' asks the waitress. 'No, this is Friday night, so I will have a steak, baked potato and a salad,' says the man. 'Same,' says the ostrich. Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, 'That will be $32.62.' Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table. The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. 'Excuse me, sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change in your pocket every time?' 'Well,' says the man, 'several years ago I was cleaning the attic and found an old lamp. When I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.' 'That's brilliant!' says the waitress. 'Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!' 'That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there,' says the man. The waitress asks, 'What's with the ostrich?' The man sighs, pauses and answers, 'My second wish was for a tall chick with a big butt and long legs who agrees with everything I say.' Barb from Ontario, Canada When I say I'm broke... I'm broke A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, only to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner. 'Good morning,' said the young man. 'If I could take a couple of minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners.' 'Go away!' said the old lady. 'I'm broke and haven't got any money!' and she proceeded to close the door. Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open... 'Don't be too hasty!' he said. 'Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.' And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet. 'If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure fro m your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder.' The old lady stepped back and ! said, 'Well, let me get you a fork, 'cause they cut off my electricity this morning.' Linda from Tallassee, AL Lavender Lavender has long been regarded for its splendour and uniquely breathtaking fragrance. It is more than just a flower . it is an herb. Lavender was the Herb of the Year for 1999 (chosen by the International Herb Association) and prior to reading that I did not even know there was an herb of the year so of course I had to go and look and see what the herb of the year is for 2008. It is Calendula. Back on topic .. Lavender essential oil is one of the most commonly used oils for aromatherapy, home health and natural medicine. A universal essential oil, lavender has many benefits including the power to heal, not only for physical injuries but also for emotional stress and so many other uses. The oil is highly demanded for soaps, creams, and aromatic candles. Some suggestions on what to do with lavender. Love to hear some suggestions from other members. Simple Potpourri Put dried lavender buds in decorative bowls throughout your house. When you walk by the bowl, give the lavender a stir with your hand to release the essential oils. Put a bowl in the bathroom, and let the steam from the bath and shower release its fresh fragrance. You can also mix lavender with other herbs and botanicals. It's great with rose buds and chamomile flowers, but have fun and experiment. Lavender BouquetsDried Flowers Lavender makes beautiful dried bouquets that will last for years. The lavender will hold its color best if dried by hanging upside down in a warm, dark place and kept out of direct sunlight when dried. Give the bouquet a soft pat and you'll smell its sweet fragrance. Lavender can be displayed alone or mixed with other dried flowers. Insect Repellent Lavender is a natural repellent for moths and fleas. Put sachets of lavender in your drawers and closets to keep moths away from your favorite clothes. Sprinkle dried lavender on your carpets and vacuum to keep fleas away. You'll also get the added benefit of lavender's fragrance throughout your house. Lavender Sachets Handkerchief SachetsYou can put lavender in almost anything and get the benefit of its wonderful fragrance. For simple sachets, that are strictly functional, you can use the feet portion of old panty hose. Tie up the ends and tuck them into your clothes drawers. For more decorative sachets, sew or buy drawstring bags out of pretty fabric, tie up lavender in fancy handkerchiefs, or make pillow shaped sachets out of lace and ribbon. The possibilities are limitless. Lavender sachets make wonderful gifts for friends and family. Now that wasn't too wordy for me was it? All I can suggest is that you plant some close by ... maybe near your front door where is can possibly be enjoyed by the most people. Lavender is easy to grow and it does not need any special care other than perhaps trimming out the old wood. Sharon from Paradise Island, aka Vancouver Island, BC, Canada THE OLD PHONE THIS WAS ONE OF THE 'GOOD OLD DAYS' WHEN PEOPLE REALLY CARED ABOUT EACH OTHER When I was quite young, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall. The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box. I was too little to reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother talked to it. Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an amazing person. Her name was 'Information Please' and there was nothing she did not know. Information Please could supply anyone's number and the correct time. My personal experience with the genie-in-a-bottle came one day while my Mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer, the pain was terrible, but there seemed no point in crying because there was no one home to give sympathy. I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving at the stairway. The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the Parlor and dragged it to the landing climbing up; I unhooked the receiver in the parlor and held it to my ear. 'Information, please,' I said into the mouthpiece just above my head. A click or two and a small clear voice spoke into my ear. 'Information.' 'I hurt my finger,' I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily enough now that I had an audience. 'Isn't your mother home?' came the question. 'Nobody's home but me,' I blubbered. 'Are you bleeding?' the voice asked. 'No,' I replied. 'I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts.' 'Can you open the icebox?' she asked. I said I could. 'Then chip off a little bit of ice and hold it to your finger,' said the voice. After that, I called 'Information Please' for everything. I asked her for help with my geography, and she told me where Philadelphia was. She helped me with my math. She told me my pet chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day before, would eat fruit and nuts. Then, there was the time Petey, our pet canary, died. I called, 'Information Please,' and told her the sad story. She listened, and then said things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was not consoled. I asked her, 'Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring Joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?' She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, ' Wayne , always remember that there are other worlds to sing in.' Somehow I felt better. Another day I was on the telephone, 'Information Please.' 'Information,' said in the now familiar voice. 'How do I spell fix?' I asked. All this took place in a small town in the Pacific Northwest . When I was nine years old, we moved across the country to Boston . I missed my friend very much. 'Information Please' belonged in that old wooden box back home and I somehow never thought of trying the shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations never really left me. Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a little boy. A few years later, on my way west to college, my plane put down in Seattle I had about a half-hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then without thinking what I was doing, I dialed my hometown Operator and said, 'Information Please.' Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well. 'Information.' I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself saying, 'Could you please tell me how to spell fix?' There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, 'I guess your finger must have healed by now.' I laughed, 'So it's really you,' I said. 'I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time?' 'I wonder,' she said, 'if you know how much your call meant to me. I never had any children and I used to look forward to your calls.' I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister. 'Please do,' she said. 'Just ask for Sally.' Three months later I was back in Seattle a different voice answered: Information.' I asked for Sally. 'Are you a friend?' she said. 'Yes, a very old friend,' I answered. 'I'm sorry to have to tell you this,' she said. 'Sally had been working part-time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago.' Before I could hang up she said, 'Wait a minute, did you say your name was Wayne ?' 'Yes.' I answered. 'Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called. Let me read it to you.' The note said, 'Tell him there are other worlds to sing in. He'll know what I mean.' I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America's most visited national park. Wildlife Most visitors come to the Smokies hoping to see a bear. Some 1,500 bears live in the park. From the big animals like bears, deer, and elk, down to microscopic organisms, the Smokies have the most biological diversity of any area in the world's temperate zone. The park is a sanctuary for a magnificent array of animal and plant life, all of which is protected for future generations to enjoy. Autumn Leaf Season The park usually experiences an autumn leaf season of several weeks as fall colors travel down the mountainsides from high elevation to low. Fall colors can typically be seen from October through early November in the park. However, the timing of the color change depends upon so many variables that the exact dates of "peak" season are impossible to predict in advance. Computer keyboards can harbour more bacteria than a lavatory seat, due to which many users are at risk of becoming ill with stomach bugs, especially in work places and offices. One keyboard tested in a London office had 150 times the acceptable limit for bacteria and 5 times as filthy as a typical lavatory seat. Anyone who eats a sandwich or piece of fruit after tapping on such a keyboard can pick up a bacteria that could lead to a "qwerty" stomach upset... named after the first 6 letters on a keyboard. Most people don't think much of the grime that builds up on their PC, and often eat lunch or snacks while working on it, though they would never do that from a lavatory seat. It is recommended that users give their keyboard and mouse a regular clean by unplugging them and wipe with a damp soft lint-free cloth, and turned up side down and shaken. Baking Terms 101 Beat To combine ingredients vigorously with a spoon, fork, wire whisk, hand beater or electric mixer until the ingredients are smooth and uniform. Blend To combine ingredients with a spoon, wire whisk, or rubber scraper until very smooth and uniform. A blender or food processor may also be used, depending on the job. Boil To heat a liquid until bubbles rise continuously and break on the surface and steam is given off. For a rolling boil, the bubbles form rapidly and will not stop forming even when the liquid is stirred. Fold To combine ingredients lightly while preventing loss of air by using two motions: Using a rubber spatula, first cut down vertically through the mixture. Next, slide the spatula across the bottom of the bowl and up the side, turning the mixture over. Repeat these motions after rotating the bowl one-fourth turn with each series of strokes. Grease To rub the inside surface of a pan with solid shortening, using a pastry brush, wax paper or paper towels, to prevent food from sticking during baking. Nonstick cooking spray may also be used; do not use butter or margarine (especially in a baked recipe) because sticking may occur. Grease and Flour To rub the inside surface of a pan with solid shortening before dusting it with flour, to prevent food from sticking during baking. After flouring the pan, turn it upside down, tapping the bottom to remove excess flour. If the batter to be added to the pan is chocolate, HERSHEY'S Cocoa may be used in place of flour to add a rich brown coating to the final product. Heat Oven To turn the oven controls to the desired temperature, allowing the oven to heat thoroughly before adding food. Heating takes about 10 minutes. Mix To combine ingredients in any way that distributes them evenly. This can be accomplished using a hand utensil or an electric mixer. Soften To allow cold food, such as butter, margarine or cream cheese, to stand at room temperature until no longer hard. Generally this will take 30 to 60 minutes. Stir To combine ingredients with a circular or "figure 8" motion until they are of a uniform consistency. Whip To beat ingredients with a wire whisk, hand rotary beater or electric mixer to add air and increase volume until ingredients are light and fluffy, such as with whipping cream or egg whites. Massage, Exercise, Massage Massaging your body, before your stretching, cardio or strength training increases blood flow to the muscles. Massaging your muscles after exercise may help encourage waste removal and speed muscle recovery. Before exercise, use a pummeling motion with your firsts to bring blood flow to your leg and arm muscles. After exercise, rub along your muscles with your palm or fist, moving in the direction of your heart. Treat Your Hands Each time you moisturize, take the time to treat your hands to a well-deserved massage. Start with the bottoms of your palms by clasping your fingers and rubbing the heels of your palms together in a circular motion. With your hands still clasped, take one thumb and massage the area, just below your other thumb in circular motions, moving outward to the centre of the palm. Repeat with the other hand. Release your fingers and use your thumbs and index fingers to knead your palms, wrists and the webbing between your fingers. With one hand, gently pull each finger of the other hand. Finish by using your thumb and index finger to pinch the webbing between your other thumb and index finger. Heel Your Neck Once an hour, take a computer break and ease the tension from your neck. Clasp your fingers behind your neck, pressing the heels of your palms into your neck on either side of your spinal column. Massage the heels of your hands up and down in slow, deliberate motions. Then place the fingers of your right hand on your muscle along the left side of your neck, just below the base of your skull. Press into that muscle, tilt your head to the left and rub downward until you reach your shoulder. Repeat three times, then switch sides. Finish by stretching your head back so the tip of your office chair pressed into your neck just below your skull. This also stretches the front of your neck, which tends to get tight during deskwork. Hold for 20 seconds. Rub Out Sinus Pressure To relieve sinus congestion, rub with your index fingers. Start just above your brow line. Place your finger pads just above your nose, press down and rub outward, tracing your brow line as you go. Repeat two or three times. Then place the pads of your fingers below your eyes and the sides of the bridge of your nose, rubbing outward and moving downward with each stroke. Use your thumbs to massage your cheekbones, making small circles starting at the centre of your face and moving out towards your ears. Finally, place your thumbs on your temples and massage them in small circles. Warm Your Eyes Relieve tired eyes by rubbing your hands together vigorously until warm and then cupping each eye with a palm. Ease Tired Feet Wash your feet, seat yourself comfortably and rub them down. Thread the fingers of one hand through the toes of one foot, spreading out your toes and placing he palm of your hand against the bottom of your foot. Use your palm to gently rotate the joints of your forefoot forward and back for one minute. Remove your fingers from your toes, hold your ankle with one hand, and gently rotate the entire foot with the other hand, starting with small circles and progression to larger circles as your ankle warms up. Switch directions, then repeat with the other foot. Bear Hug Ease shoulder tension by giving yourself a bear hug. Cross your arms over your chest and grab a shoulder with either hand. Squeeze each shoulder and release three times. Then move your hands down your arms, squeezing and releasing until you get to your wrists. (STINKY FEET CHEESE)
When Haley was a tot she would make a funny face when we would put parmesan cheese on our spaghetti so I would tell her it was "stinky feet cheese" and tickle her feet. So now we call Parmesan "stinky feet cheese."
Knowing this here is the beginning of one of Chars days: First off as most of you know I am diabetic so my shoes are very important as to how they affect my feet. (RIGHT?)
My son Scott was staying with us and believe me he can have some real "STINKY FEET" after coming in from work with his boots, so I always made him remove his socks and boots at the back door where the laundry room is.
I set these wonderful smelly things outside and when Haley came home from school she said, " OH WOW WE'RE HAVING SPAGHETTI, I SMELL THE STINKY FEET CHEESE!"

Chip on your shoulder Meaning:A perceived grievance or sense of inferiority.
Origin
The word chip has several meanings; the one that we are concerned with here is the earliest known of these, namely 'a small piece of wood, as might be chopped, or chipped, from a larger block'.
I will not lower them."
It goes on to report that "Immediately the main body pushed on with their chips on their shoulders."
That's a nice story and does connect an incident concerning chips and shoulders with a belligerent attitude. Everyone seemed in a conspiracy to slight or injure him."
A gap of nearly 200 years between the use of a phrase and the incident that supposedly spawned it in the same country is hard to explain.
This, it seems, is equivalent to throwing the glove in days of yore, or to the boyish custom of knocking a chip off the shoulder."
In 1830 the New York newspaper The Long Island Telegraph printed this: "When two churlish boys were determined to fight, a chip would be placed on the shoulder of one, and the other demanded to knock it off at his peril."
The actual phrase 'chip on his shoulder' appears a little later, in the Weekly Oregonian 1855: "Leland, in his last issue, struts out with a chip on his shoulder, and dares Bush to knock it off."

'I'll have the same,' says the ostrich.
Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, 'That will be $32.62.'
Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table.
The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. 'Excuse me, sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change in your pocket every time?'
'Well,' says the man, 'several years ago I was cleaning the attic and found an old lamp. When I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.'
'That's brilliant!' says the waitress. 'Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!'
'That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there,' says the man.
The waitress asks, 'What's with the ostrich?'
The man sighs, pauses and answers, 'My second wish was for a tall chick with a big butt and long legs who agrees with everything I say.'

A little old lady answered a knock on the door one day, only to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner.
'If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure fro m your carpet, Madam, I will personally eat the remainder.'
The old lady stepped back and ! said, 'Well, let me get you a fork, 'cause they cut off my electricity this morning.'

Hi Family & Friends, You won't be hearing much from me this week. We have our "Harbor Family Reunion" next Sat. Aunt Bobbie is coming Tues. I've got to get the house cleaned real good before she gets here. Still have a lot of junk that needs to go out to the building outside. I think Tonya & Courtney are coming Fri. or Sat.
If you don't mind, kinda hold the emails down. I probably won't have time to answer them. Mother & I have doctors appointments Mon., so I probably won't be on again until late. I cleaned some today and did laundry.
Everyone have a good week and I'll be back next week.

Lavender has long been regarded for its splendour and uniquely breathtaking fragrance.
Simple Potpourri
Put dried lavender buds in decorative bowls throughout your house. Lavender BouquetsDried Flowers
Lavender makes beautiful dried bouquets that will last for years. The lavender will hold its color best if dried by hanging upside down in a warm, dark place and kept out of direct sunlight when dried. Give the bouquet a soft pat and you'll smell its sweet fragrance. Lavender can be displayed alone or mixed with other dried flowers. Insect Repellent
Lavender is a natural repellent for moths and fleas. Put sachets of lavender in your drawers and closets to keep moths away from your favorite clothes. Sprinkle dried lavender on your carpets and vacuum to keep fleas away. You'll also get the added benefit of lavender's fragrance throughout your house.
Lavender Sachets
Handkerchief SachetsYou can put lavender in almost anything and get the benefit of its wonderful fragrance.

THIS WAS ONE OF THE 'GOOD OLD DAYS' WHEN PEOPLE REALLY CARED ABOUT EACH OTHER
When I was quite young, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood.
'Information.'
'I hurt my finger,' I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily enough now that I had an audience.
I asked her, 'Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring Joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?'
She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, ' Wayne , always remember that there are other worlds to sing in.'
Somehow I felt better.
Then without thinking what I was doing, I dialed my hometown Operator and said, 'Information Please.'
Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well. 'Information.'
I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself saying, 'Could you please tell me how to spell fix?'
There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, 'I guess your finger must have healed by now.'
I laughed, 'So it's really you,' I said. 'I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time?'
'I wonder,' she said, 'if you know how much your call meant to me. I never had any children and I used to look forward to your calls.'
I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister.
'Please do,' she said. 'Just ask for Sally.'
Three months later I was back in Seattle a different voice answered: Information.' I asked for Sally.
'Are you a friend?' she said.
'Yes, a very old friend,' I answered.
'I'm sorry to have to tell you this,' she said. 'Sally had been working part-time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago.'
Before I could hang up she said, 'Wait a minute, did you say your name was Wayne ?'
'Yes.' I answered.
'Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called. Let me read it to you.' The note said, 'Tell him there are other worlds to sing in. He'll know what I mean.'
I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant.
Never underestimate the impression you may make on others.
Whose life have you touched today?
Why not pass this on? I just did....
Lifting you on eagle's wings. May you find the joy and peace you long for.
Life is a journey ... NOT a guided tour. So don't miss the ride and have a great time going around. You don't get a second shot at it.
Last Monday, our dance group SOL21 put on a big show at a theatre, which was full. I didn't take part but I got a front row seat and took some photos which I will send next week., together with some from next Sunday when they have a chicken BBQ lunch to welcome SPRING. Leo has been asked to make 250 pasties for that.
Also next Sunday my son leaves for a business trip to Chicago USA for about 3 weeks. Do we have any members there? He might very well have to continue on to Mexico after that. He is computer engineer at a communications company.
Spring is certainly in the air, trees are breaking into delicate green leaf and blossom, grass is beginning to look lush and I have several daffodils in bloom.
Talk to you soon, Hugs Daphne

Great Smoky Mountain National Park
A Wondrous Diversity of Life
Ridge upon ridge of forest straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America's most visited national park.
Wildlife
Most visitors come to the Smokies hoping to see a bear.
Autumn Leaf Season
The park usually experiences an autumn leaf season of several weeks as fall colors travel down the mountainsides from high elevation to low. Fall colors can typically be seen from October through early November in the park. However, the timing of the color change depends upon so many variables that the exact dates of "peak" season are impossible to predict in advance.

How your computer keyboard can leave you with a "Qwerty" tummy.
Just try that a see what you get in crumbs and dust!!

Can't shake the kink out of your neck? Treat yourself with these self-massage tips and let the tension melt away.
Can't wait until you get home for a foot massage? Dump some golf balls into a box and keep it under your desk. Roll your feet over the balls for quick relief.
Using your fists, gently thump the outside of your body, starting with your legs and arms, working from bottom to top. When done in the morning, this self-massage technique will waken and prepare your body- and mind - for the day ahead. When done before bed, it calms down the mind and beats out the stress and tension of the day.
Note: If you're taking any kind of blood-thinner, avoid this massage tip; you could wind up with bruising.
Rub Your Belly
While most people do this instinctively after overeating, you should actually do it after every meal. Place one or both palms on your abdomen and rub it in clockwise circles. This is the same direction food naturally moves through your intestine, so your circular massage will help to stimulate digestion.
Massage, Exercise, Massage
Massaging your body, before your stretching, cardio or strength training increases blood flow to the muscles.
Treat Your Hands
Each time you moisturize, take the time to treat your hands to a well-deserved massage.
Once an hour, take a computer break and ease the tension from your neck.
To relieve sinus congestion, rub with your index fingers.
Relieve tired eyes by rubbing your hands together vigorously until warm and then cupping each eye with a palm.
Ease Tired Feet
Wash your feet, seat yourself comfortably and rub them down.
Ease shoulder tension by giving yourself a bear hug. Cross your arms over your chest and grab a shoulder with either hand. Squeeze each shoulder and release three times. Then move your hands down your arms, squeezing and releasing until you get to your wrists.

UPDATE Muire: UPDATE (28 year old Mommy with Brain Cancer) Muire needs prayer for guidance right now in making a decision about her treatment. The plan that she is on right now is being paid for by the pharmecutical companies and once she is done with this plan, then that's it....it is done and she can never go back on it. She has the option of quitting once her cycles are finished, or doing another round. If she doens't do it now, then she can't. It is a plan that must be maintained on a schedule, so she has to decide! It's basically a now or never kind of situation. She wants to do it because it seems like the smart thing to do, but she is so tired of being sick and feeling bad. This cancer usually returns within two years and grows back twice as fast each time it returns after chemotherapy. Please keep Muire in constant prayer for God's guidance in her decision as well as her daughter and husband.
