I think you do a wonderful job of creating and maintaining Global Express. You really deserve all the credit for keeping us in your circle, even though you have that much older brother Wayne and his very nice wife Jen.
I look foward to reveiving every edition of the Global Express and many times I go back and re-read. I have made a lot of new friends, and I just want to thank you for giving me this opportunity.

Gratitude
This week's lesson is all about Gratitude. Gratitude is an uplifting, exalting attitude. We are happier when we have gratitude in our hearts. We cannot be bitter, resentful or mean-spirited when we are grateful.
This Week's Assignment
Work at being grateful and be thankful for your family and friends. Always express appreciation to everyone who does you a favour or assists you in any way. Greet each morning with gratitude and expect only joy and refreshment from the day. A warning to heed ... happiness is contagious!
Somethings to Think About
At least some of these should make you think
- A good time to keep your mouth shut is when you're in deep water.
- How come it takes so little time for a child who is afraid of the dark to become a teenager who wants to stay out all night?
- Business conventions are important because they show how many people a company can operate without.
- Why is it that at class reunions you feel younger than everyone else looks?
- Scratch a dog and you'll find a permanent job.
- No one has more driving ambition than the boy who wants to buy a car.
- There are no new sins...the old ones just get more publicity.
- There are worse things than getting a call for a wrong number at 4 AM. It could be a right number.
- No one ever says "It's only a game" when his team is winning.
- Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.
- The nicest thing about the future is that it always starts tomorrow.
- If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably don't have any sense at all
- Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs.
- I've reached the age where the happy hour is a nap.
- The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the same size bucket
- Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of old ladies running around with tattoos? (YAY)
- Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Corvette than in a Yugo.
- After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in nearly every joint, you are probably dead
Macaroni Surprise
- 1 large Onion - chopped and browned
- 1 lb. ground beef -- add to onion and brown
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 2 large bay leaves
- 1 13 oz. can tomato paste
- 2 1/2 cups elbow macaroni
- 5 to 6 cups water
Turn into a large dish, 9" x 13" is ideal. Sprinkle generously with grated cheddar chese, sprinkle with paprika powder and brown under the broiler element.
Serve with a large green salad.

I am recovering pretty good from surgery. Just can't walk too good. Have to stay off my foot most of the time. Have to wear a boot that is very heavy, you couldn't walk far if you wanted to. Linda who would like us to remember that
Worry doesn't help tomorrow's troubles,
but it does ruin today's happiness.
We have been home for 2 weeks now and are almost back to normal again. It is hard to slow down after 8 weeks of sightseeing all day every day.
We had a great time in Victoria. A beautiful place with all of those lovely flowers. The weather was great also. We didn't catch up with Sharon as she had her brother over for a visit. We did speak on the phone.
We went to Chemainus to see the murals. Went on a boat trip on the harbour and as all tourists do, went to the shops.
Our trip to Juneau was great also. We filled in 8 days of sightseeing. I think the people on the cruise ships miss out on a lot spending only 10 hours there.
We flew to Skagway to go on the Whitepass train ride. The view was a bit hazy with 115 forest fires in Alaska, some near Skagway.
We also had a magnificent cruise to Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glacier. The weather was perfect. The glacier was enormous with ice breaking off and making little icebergs. The seals were lazing around on their icebergs.
On the way back to Juneau we saw about 10 humpback whales. It was a perfect day.
We visited Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park and Bloedel Conservatory while we were in Vancouver. The gardens were almost as good as Butchart Gardens only on a smaller scale. Also visited Grouse Mountain and Capilano Suspension Bridge. Liked the bridge better than the mountain.
After the Skagway trip we found the memory stick in our digital camera was corrupted. Three shops (including Sony) told us to throw it away but I went to the Future Shop Photo Lab. and they were able to download all of the photos to CD with a special software program. We were very lucky. (It only needed re-formatting and we can use it again).
I see that you are moving house. I think you did mention this when we had dinner.
Hope all goes well with the move and that you are well. Bye Diane & Elaine from Australia
Shirley Goodnest
A mom was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school. He didn't want his mother to walk with him. She wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.
So she had an idea of how to handle it. She asked a neighbor, Mrs. Goodnest, if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance, so he probably wouldn't notice her.
Mrs. Goodnest said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.
The next school day, Mrs. Goodnest and her little girl, Marcy, set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbor boy he knew. She did this for the whole week.
As the boys walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, Timmy's little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week. Finally he said to Timmy, Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her? Timmy nonchalantly replied, Yeah, I know who she is. The friend said, Well, who is she? That's just Shirley Goodnest, Timmy replied, and her daughter Marcy.
Shirley Goodnest? Who the heck is she and why is she following us?
Well, Timmy explained, every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much. And in the Psalm, it says, 'Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life', so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!
May Shirley Goodnest and Marcy be with you today, and always.

How are you doing? I am doing great! Other than ready to climb the walls. Bored out of my skull! The things I want to do I can't yet, and the other things I can do don't have the money to get . So, just find other things to pass the time. 3 more weeks to go. Then can go back to work. YES! I am planning to come to the reunion. I have been wanting to go back to Fl for visit of my dear friends whom I left behind 4 yrs ago. So am intending to stay another week after or before Reunion. That is if they let me go once I get back to work. (they may keep me hostage since have been off so long from this surgery!)So God willing I will be there with BELLS ON! Jami

More on the who, what, where, when and why relating to the World Wide Web Circle of Friends. Because of the quality of our membership we have evolved as a group of people who are willing to help, rescue and protect others. We have developed empathy in which we identify with the needs of others. We are gaining experience on an ongoing basis in solving conflicts, a skill so greatly needed in today's world. We are learning that much good is done when we put ourselves in another's shoes and care for those as we would like to be cared for. This type of service to others, which we like to refer to as Random Acts of Kindness, keeps each of us alive, vibrant and youthful!
Always remember that family is the fundamental unit of society.
