Something to think about ....

"The noblest aim in life is to strive to live to make other lives better and happier."

Random Acts of Kindness

How do you feel when you do what we like to refer to in the Circle of Friends as a Random Act of Kindness? We live our lives most completely when we strive to make the world better and happier. When you do a Random Act of Kindness you make this world better for your having lived in it and be assured that it brings happiness to both the giver and the receiver. So if you want to be happy, try a Random Act of Kindness, render a kind service, make somebody else happy.

I am so honoured to be a part of our wonderful Circle of Friends; a place where the members devote so much of their time and talents to replacing discouragement and gloom with hope and happiness. Only one word of warning ... Happiness is contagious!

Here is an example of just what some people will do for their fellowmen. I apologize for not publishing this sooner but it came to me via hotmail and I rarely ever check my hotmail. Please when you email me use this address -- sharongreene@shaw.ca -

We hope all of our Canadian members enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving last weekend. Did anyone else O.D. on tryptophan? No ... you don't need to see a counsellor, you need to stop eating Thanksgiving leftovers. Tryptophan is the stuff in your turkey dinner that makes you want to go beddy-bye. Sure, "it's low in fat" ... sure, "it's tasty", but have you thought of feeding it to the kids when they don't want to go to bed. I bet you won't find that in any parenting books.

All that being said here is a recipe for that leftover turkey you might want to try.

Turkey Casserole Supreme"

Ingredients:

  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1/3 cup chopped red pepper
  • 2 tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 3 cups diced cooked turkey
  • 3 cups cooked rice
  • 1 can water chestnuts, drained
  • 1 cup light cream
  • 1/2 cup turkey or chicken stock
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Directions:

  • Saute onion, mushrooms and red pepper in butter until vegetables are tender (about 5 minutes);
  • Combine vegetables, turkey, rice, water chestnuts, cream, stock and salt;
  • Place in greased 3.5 L (13 x 9 inch) baking dish; Cover and bake at 180C (350F);
  • Uncover, sprinkle with cheddar cheese;
  • Return to oven and bake another 15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly.
Makes about 6 servings.

Very Special Announcement - New Member

Please join me in a very warm welcome to Kabali from India. Kalbali is a general surgeon who likes music.

Today's birthday

Ruby our mascot is on her way to Brazil. to be with Graça and her daughter Talyta who are very happy to have their names picked and are anxious to receive our Circle's travelling mascot. Ruby worries in case your name is not on the list to receive her, since she wants to go EVERYWHERE and visit EVERYONE in the Circle. She has asked me to add anyone who lets us know on here or by visiting her new online journal. You can read up on all her travels here or have fun playing her games. Meanwhile we'll continue adding anyone's name to the list who wants a visit from Ruby, and we look forward to hearing her adventures in Brazil.

Halloween is such a fun time of year. The Halloween decorations along with the bright colors of the trees make for such a beautiful scene. Would you like to make a scarecrow for your front yard. It only takes about 20 minutes! All it takes is an old pair of jeans, a flannel shirt, a plastic shopping bag (for the head), a hat and some crumpled newspaper. This is also a great project that kids love.

Be sure to check out the following projects too.

  • I'm ok. Just headachy and my neck and shoulder are quite stiff. My back is stiff from about mid way all the way down. It's a little painful, but they gave me something for pain and some muscle relaxers. I'm not doing too much today. I'm trying to take it easy. I'm not too good at that, but I don't want any problems so I'm trying to behave myself.

    Vern called in this A.M. and did all the calling around etc. Our dealer came and picked the car up and we got a rental for now. Our insurance company wasn't open today with it being Columbus Day. Down here it's like one of those holidays that anything Federal is closed but others can choose. I guess they choose to take it as a holiday.

    By the way Happy Thanksgiving.

    Well, I'm going to take a long hot bath and turn on my Jacuzzi and try to get some relief from this stiffness. That's one thing that I'm very glad Vern insisted we have in this house. With my arthritis it's been a blessing.

    Thanks so much for your concern Sharon. It's wonderful to have caring friends like you and my other friends from WWWCOF. It feels so good to know others are out there somewhere thinking of you and holding you up in prayer when you need it. Love, Cindy

  • I have my good days and very BAD days. This pain is really something. It's like someone has a knife in there twisting it as hard as can be. It's a pain like I've never had before. One thats I can barely can handle with out tears. I have Celebrex and Spasm medication but just don't help all the time, So tired of Drs. appointments. Fibromyalgia is so hard to diagnose Dr. afraid to say thats what I really have.

    My youngest son Kirk got me a motorized chair so I can get out, but no lift yet for the truck or my car. Kirk will be having neck surgery 1st of Nov. or 1st of Dec. Will need prayers for him. All for now my Love and Prayers are with you. LOL Florida Marie

  • Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. I just had another chemo treatment and it keeps me down for a while. I went in and did the survey and sent it off. I couldn't send a picture because my husband has them all on his computer. My favorite Thanksgiving receipe is:

    Home made egg noodles … All of the kids can't wait for this day because it's the only time I make them.

    4 eggs
    flour
    salt and pepper
    broth from your turkey

    Mix 4 eggs in a mixing bowl. Add flour slowly, add until the egg mixture has become textured. Take a small amount and put it on your pastry pan or on a protected area on your counter. Add flour to the this area and put a small amount on it. Combine the small amount of egg mixture and knead. Roll with rolling pin until it's about 1/8" in thick. Cut with noodle cutter. Put noodles on a cookie sheet. Repeat until you use all of the egg mixture. Keep the noodles covered with the flour and leave out to dry for about 3 hours. Take you broth from your turkey and cut your giblets into the broth, add one can of Celery Soup, one can of crean of chicken soup. Bring to a boil and then start added your noodles slowly. Cook on medim heat until the noodles start to float and are cook in the middle.

    I hope I explained this okay, it's hard to discribe something that you've put together with your eyes closed for years.

    Thank you for your thoughtful words and I will continue to have faith in God and the comfort of my friends and family.

    Take care Nancy

    Quotation of the Day

    Two Boys and God

    A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. They were always getting into trouble and their parents knew that, if any mischief occurred in their town, their sons were probably involved. The boys' mother heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The clergyman agreed, but asked to see them individually.

    So, the mother sent her 8-year-old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the clergyman in the afternoon. The clergyman, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Where is God?" The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, just sat there wide-eyed.

    So, the clergyman repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?"

    Again, the boy made no attempt to answer. So, the clergyman raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "WHERE IS GOD?"

    The boy screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him. When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "What happened?"

    The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time, dude. God is missing - and they think WE did it!"
