Hello everyone! Bigsis Pat and Max left Paradise Island on Wednesday morning at 7:00 a.m. as planned and although I have not as yet heard from her I am certain they arrived in Ontario safe and sound. I will miss Pat but we both have many fond memories of her visit here.

I can not thank her and the rest of the wonderful members of the World Wide Web Circle of Friends for doing what had to be done in my absence. Words really cannot adequately express how grateful I am. I am so happy to be doing the newsletter once again. It is something I always enjoyed doing and looked forward to publishing it every week. It is a labour of love that requires input from the membership to ensure its success and I will be calling on you for your help. Jami is going to be doing a "Pet of the Week" segment and Chrissie is doing the Origin and Meanings of Sayings we use in our everyday conversations. Please contact these girls for more information.

I hope each of our American members had a lovely Thanksgiving this past week. Some of you have sent in emails about your Thanksgiving; thank you. I do look forward to publishing more "Thanksgiving" emails and pictures in next week's Global Express.

  • Good Morning Friends: I just thought I would amuse you all with my day so far, and it is only 10:24 a.m. First I was up at 4:30 (as usual) Charlie was up farting around in his room, I snuck into the laundry room for a cig waiting for the coffee pot to start brewing, praying .... Please let him lay back down.....

    Whew, came out to go upstairs and get my coffee now ready, All's quiet upstairs,,,, ahhhhhh, a peaceful alone time cup of coffee! It is now 5:30 am and time to go back up and get the turkey stuffed and into the oven....... Now, where is Charlie????? He was going to come down and help me stuff the turkey...... HMMMMM, could I be so lucky as to him being in nice sound sleep? and I can go back and take a snooze????? Yeah right! just finished stuffing the bird, got him all buttered, and foil on to put into the oven....... Guess who shows up???? (no fair Emma, You already know)

    Of course, Charlie... he's already dressed and up, so their goes my lil snooze....... oh well....... Here comes John, and Arlen, we have breakfast, and medicine. got the rest of the prep done for dinner, and now downstairs to watch the Parade. I now am getting Arlen a perm, and Trimming John's hair around his neck. Then its Charlies turn. he needs a thinning down the back and sides, Top is scarse so, ......

    Now it is time for me to wash my mop. (hair) and ya know what? time go back up and baste the bird again....... I want to so badly snitch a taste. but know better. so, darn it back in the oven it goes..... I am back downstairs now, talking to you all, and taking a break......

    Poor Jami? Dont ever think that, I love working the holidays with them, they get so excited, and really appreciate the food...... If I was at home, I'd be sitting in fornt of my televison with Just Shadow. It is deifinitely days like this That make me appreciate my Job more, and the folks I care for. I am so Thankful for them in my life, They give me purpose, and love and most of all. They appreciate every little thing I do for them. They are GReat!!!!!!

    I guess You can all relate, because you have your family around you, since my family are all scattered across the country, This is my family. Happy Thanksgiving to you all from all of us here at Hitching Post....... John, Charlie, Arlen, and of course ME - Jami!!!!!!!! In between I am up and down basting my turkey, mmmmmm smells so good....

    Hello again: Well, dinner ended up being earlier than I antisipated, (helps when you know how many lbs your turkey weighs...)but thats ok, cause after dinner (1p.m ) we got the kitchen all cleaned up, and went to the family room , watched little tv, and next thing we were all taking a nap.. Benn peaceful, quiet, and everyone is happy... I woke up at 3:30 to go out and have a cigarette, to my amazement found the temp has dropped at least 10-15 degrees since our little rain. It is now windy as heck and cold darn it! What a weird day! 70 earlier where we sat outside and now this. Hmmmmmm, Jan, may get that snow yet ..... What a wonderful day. Around 6 we'll have a sandwhich and piece of pumpkin pie..... and they will get their showers and ready for bed by 8. (maybe me too by then...... lol) I need to go shave Charlie now, so this will be the end of my day to share with you all......   • Hi All... Been busy today doing yard work. With the temp right now at 4:27 being 73, it's been a gorgeous day. Tomorrow even warmer but Thanksgiving Day 60 with rain then Friday 49. Like I have said before "strange weather".... I'll write more later. I have to make my sauce for the pork tenderloin....... Deanna

  • My day was very good. Glad it is over now because I am very tired. I cooked a ham, hen & dressing, giblet gravy. Potato salad, strawberry salad, green beans, cream corn, cranberry sauce, potato dumplings, rolls, sweet potato pie, lemon pound cake, butterscotch fantastic & chocolate cake. Every one came at 4pm.We had 13 people & we all ate so much we couldn't wiggle. I am still full. We all had a great time with lots of jokes and laughter. We played games & finally all went home at 9pm. Can't wait for Christmas to do it all again. I think maybe I'll farm out a few dishes then. Hope everyone enjoyed their day as much as our family did. I want to thank God for this beautiful day, He has really blessed me & our family. I could not have got through today without him & Mom, I felt Mom by my side today while I was cooking. That is something we always did together. Hugs Lindalou

  • HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A WONDERFUL, THANKFUL DAY!!! I KNOW I HAVE SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR AND HAVE HAD ALL MY LIFE.
    THIS WILL BE THE FIRST THANKSGIVING I WON'T GET A CALL FROM MUM , BUT I'M THANKFUL I HAD HER TO CALL ME ALL THOSE YEARS. I AM THANKFUL FOR EVERY ONE OF YOU, AND FOR ALL YOU'VE ADDED TO MY LIFE. GOD HAS BLESSED ME WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHO HAVE TAUGHT ME HOW TO LIVE, LAUGH, & LOVE. WHEN I'M IN MY GARDEN ON A BRIGHT SUMMER DAY, I THINK OF HOW EVERYONE IN MY LIFE IS SO MUCH LIKE MY GARDEN.   • This is my first Thanksgiving without my Mother. I only got to spend holidays with her every so often since she lived in Indiana. Also she had a mental disabilability. I miss hearing her on the other end of the phone saying 'WELL HELLO THERE." Every Sunday when I called her and on Holidays. I just can't seem to erase her phone number from my phone. I am thankful she is in a wonderful glorious place and is happy and I will be with her again one day. So we can say our Mothers are having the BEST THANKSGIVING EVER with JESUS! Charla

  • Charla, Cindy, My mom Passed away 46 yrs ago October 22,nd.and I still miss her. So, you girls just remember the great times you had with yours for as long as you did. I grew up fron 9 yrs old without her. I can tell you from experience. It Does NOT get any easier. Our mother's are there embedded in our hearts, minds and thoughts always...... We are not alone. We all feel the same thing. I believe thats why God put mother's on this earth. Because he knew this is the one bond that could never die.... Jami

  • UNBELIEVABLE! THIS WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY! Just try this. It is from an orthopedic surgeon.

    This will boggle your mind and you will keep trying over and over again to see if you can outsmart your right foot, but you can't. It's preprogrammed in your brain!!

    1. While sitting where you are, at your desk, in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.

    2. Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction!

  • A STORY FROM VANCOUVER ISLAND.

    A woman from Vancouver, who was a tree hugger and anti-hunter, purchased acres of timberland, near Lake Cowichan, Vancouver Island.

    There was a huge tree on one of the highest points in the tract.

    She wanted to view the natural splendor of her land, so she climbed the tree. As she neared the top, she encountered a spotted owl . It attacked her!

    In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground. The ensuing fall incurred several splinters of wood: in her crotch. In considerable pain, she hurried to the doctor, 35 minutes away in Duncan. She told him she was an environmentalist and anti-hunter and how she came to receive all of the splinters. The doctor listened to her story with great patience. He then told her to go into the examining room and he would see if he could help.

    The impatient patient sat, and sat, and waited for three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, 'What took you so long?'

    He smiled and said , 'Well, I had to get permits from Environment Canada, the BC Forest Service and Worksafe BC before I could remove old-growth timber from a recreational area.

    I'm sorry, but they turned me down.'

Cindy wwwcof: Please keep Vern and I in your prayers. We are trying to take weight off. Him for his heart and me for my joints! I have fought this battle for most of my life and I know what it is I have to do it's just the "DOING IT" I lost 160 lbs. some years ago and I have gained 100 of it back! A lot of it in the last year as I have been so inactive With my hip.

Right now my appetite is not that great, but I know as I get better it will come back with a vengeance! My husband Vern, has a heart problem. He has had a couple of small heart attacks and has had a stint inserted. He has probably put on as much as me. He has so VERY BAD eating habits! I do not want to nag him! So I am praying for him to have the strength to avoid the things that are so bad for him and myself. All the moving around I have to do to recover is much harder with the weight. Taking care of your ADL's is harder. I have just totally neglected my body for way too long now and I know I have to get my act together. This isn't exactly a good time of the year to do so, but I'm really going to give it the old college try! I need God's help though I know. Without Him I just can't last. My husband needs His help! One thing I'd like prayer about is that those who love us will refrain from pushing food at us! I only have so much strength! It's hard to say no to those we love who are trying to be nice to us. I'm letting everyone know that we are trying to eat RIGHT now. So I'm hoping with God's help, we will be able to move forward with our weight loss & on to being healthier "Old Farts"!

I'm doing better day by day and really way ahead of schedule according to my therapist. So thanks for all your prayers. They keep me going. All My Love, Cindy

FROM BILLIE wwwcof: I've been sick ever since we moved here in July.They seem to think my problem is that I'm not getting enough blood to my colon. I've lost down to 129.2 with all this going on. Just wanted you all to know that I won't be on for a few days. I go to Tonya's (daughter's) tomorrow. I'll have the stints put in my stomach Thurs. morning. (November 15, 2007) Have to be there at 6:00 am. It's in Southaven, MS where I'll be in Baptist Hospital. Boy, that will be hard for me. I slept this morning until 11:30 and then slept all afternoon. The pills that I'm taking to quit smoking make me a little sick at my stomach. I usually go back to sleep until it gets better. This is only my 2nd week and it's a 12 week program. It seems to be helping some. Everyone take care and I'll try and get on after I get back home. Please hold my mail and Please keep me in your prayers. Thanks.

I have a Prayer Request please. I have had a problem with my left side for a while now. I have an easy time falling. I fell last week while taking a walk with Haley so I ask for prayer for God to heal me. I will be going to the doctor the 23rd. I don't feel it is life threatening although I do feel I have some weak bones. I also ask for continued prayer for my losing weight safely. This is an addiction just as other things in life and very hard to conquer. It seems the more I try the harder it becomes.

Please keep Deseree in prayer, she had chemo and it burned a hole in her colon and the bile went into her body. They are giving her antibiotics to clear it up, also gave her two days to two weeks to live, boy they don't know the power of God, do they? Please Pray for her older son and newborn baby to deal with what their mother is going thru. LORD WE ASK YOUR WILL BE DONE AND HOLD THIS FAMILY IN YOUR COMFORTING ARMS.

Kevin Pinson: (Dear friend of Charla wwwcof ) Kevin is not doing very good. He was under Hospice crisis care since Thursday night but has stablized so that they stopped it yesterday afternoon. They will still come twice a day to help with the bath/diaper change and check his vitals. He is very weak but is not ready to give up. He drinks a little but refuses food completely. They moved a hospital bed in Friday afternoon - into his sitting room so he can still have cable TV when he is awake and wants it. His speech is so slurred and he is not swallowing good so they have changed his medicine to a liquid with a dropper. He said Friday morning that he thought "Jesus is coming to take me to his house so I can see Granny and Grandpa." He says he is very tired but at times is alert enough to know exactly what channel he wants on TV. All this is amazing and hard to handle day to day.

LORD JESUS WE KNOW YOU HAVE YOUR TIME TO CALL KEVIN HOME. WE ASK THAT THAT TIME BE VERY NEAR FOR KEVIN'S SAKE AND THE SAKE OF HIS FAMILY. WE KNOW HE WILL BE IN A GLORIOUS PLACE OF NO TEARS NO HURTS NO PAIN ONLY SINGING AND GLORIFYING YOU FATHER. PLEASE BE WITH FAITH AND BRAD AS NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY SEE HIM SUFFER AND HOW CERTAIN HE WILL BE WITH YOU, THEY ARE HUMAN AND NEED YOU MORE NOW THAN EVER. BEA wwwcof: (SON IN LAW GREG & Daughter Nancy) This was sent to Bea from her daughter Nancy: Well lots has been happening - Greg got transferred to another hospital today. I Just got back from seeing him. He had an angiogram and an endoscopy- he had pressure on his heart which with the pressure he couldn't breath plus they closed an artery to relieve some pressure from the heart.

Tomorrow (Wednesday November 21) he is having a pacemaker put it. So hopefully if all goes well he will be coming home possibly on Thanksgiving day - if not they will keep him longer. I am so stressed and tired, and you would not believe - I took today and tomorrow off to be with him. Plus, Danielle and Spencer are both sick with the flu. Please keep this family in prayer as they are going through a very hard time. I am certain the stress Nancy is under is very strong. May God Heal this Family.

UpdateHi Just called my daughter Nancy, in Oregon, Gregg is out of icu, & ccu. His pacemaker is in and he is doing ok , so far, thank you all for all the prayers. Bea

Further UpdatePRAISE GOD!!!!!!!! Guess what My son in law is going home today. I called my daughter Nancy, I can't believe he is going home from hospital. the pacemaker is working and he is doing as good as possible. Oh we have so much to be thankful for. My son name is Sam.. He was out riding on a cross country motor bike,,with his two nephews..they were not going fast because of the condition of the road,, unfortunately his front wheel went into a rut, and the bike stoped and he went over the handle bar and landed on his neck and now he is in Toronto Western Hospital, unable to walk or use his hands, and with all this,. He was just getting over his Cancer treatment (Chemo and Radiation) in the throat.. Thank you for thinking of him,, Marcel

We have a long list of good friends whose husbands are deploying to Iraq next month One of the wives sent me this.

We feel compelled to send it on Your prayers are deeply appreciated. These guys deserve our love, our hugs and most powerfully, our prayers. I understand that life in Iraq is very difficult to bear right now. Our troops need our prayers for strength, endurance and safety.

Tips & Recommendations

Keep a watch out for people standing near you in the checkout line at retail stores, restaurants, grocery stores, etc; who have a camera cell phone in hand. With the camera cell phones, they can take a picture of your credit card, which gives them your name, number, and expiration date. CBS reported this type of identification theft is one of the fastest growing scams today. Be aware of your surroundings, forward to all your friends and family.

Prescription: Sewing

Is your heart racing or your blood pressure skyrocketing? Try sewing. A clinical study recently commissioned by the American Home Sewing and Craft Association shows that women who sew (both as skilled crafters and home sewers) have a lower heart rate, blood pressure and perspiration rate compared to women who do other leisure activities. "Sewing helps women to relax while they focus on a creative activity," says Beth Mauro, marketing director of the association. "Women who sew tell us they feel sewing is a relaxing pastime, and some say it's better than therapy. There are positive, stress-reducing benefits to be gained from sewing." And the best part is you don't have to get a shot to feel better!

The Argentinean Chapter


days until Reunion 2008! There is now an official site FOR REUNION ARGENTINA 2008 which, among other things has a sign up form and a suggestions forum, tells you about this country, has sites where you can find flight information in your area, plans for accomodation and activity ideas.

The Argentine members are very happy that they have been chosen to host Reunion 2008 and have already presented the 1st Reunion Challenge.

For the Tilbury 2004 reunion it was the Argentine Chapter who designed and made the reunion banner, and it was the same girls who made the extention to it for Florida 2006 - banner and extention now in the care of the former hostesses.

Jami of Maryland stepped forward and offered to make the extention piece of banner for Argentina 2008. Thanks Jami for taking on that task.

Here are some of the things the Argentine chapter have on the possible activities list:

  • A live Tango supper party
  • A visit to the annual flower and garden show
  • Authenic Argentine cuisine and entertainment
  • Option of an extended stay for an excursion to places of historic, geographic and natural interest etcetc.

They promise, you won't go home dissapointed.

Their idea is to hold the reunion itself at the beginning of October 2008, say 3rd or 5th, for a week, and then offer an optional week excursion visiting other parts of the country. Being it is long way to come for almost everyone, anyone who hopes to stay longer will be perfectly welcome.

The Argentine currency is the peso, which at present is 3 to the US$ but we do not recommend anyone to start changing their cash, in fact it would be recommended to actually wait till you get here before doing that. The main and most used international airport is in Buenos Aires- the capital, which is 404 kilometres (250 miles) from the city of Mar del Plata, and we recommend that visitors all arrange to arrive on the same 24 hours, so as to be met as deserved in the airport. More details to follow.

Step three is now in full force regarding Reunion Argentina 2008. Planning, organization, more planning and more organization. We ask that all members contribute their help and suggestions to Daphne to help her ensure the success of this exciting adventure.

Holly Berry Martini

Serves 1

  • 1 part Bacardi Razz raspberry rum
  • 1 part Barcardi vanilla rum
  • 2 parts cranberry juice
  • splash of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 treaspoon red currant jelly
Put it all in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake briskly. Strain into a martini glass, and garnish the edge with a slice of star fruit.

Speaking of kitchens and recipes or whatever, Charla mentioned recently that she has a sign in her kitchen that says:
