Every year on November 11, Canadians pause in a silent moment of remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace. We honour those who fought for Canada in the
First World war (1914 - 1918), the Second World War (1939 - 1945) and the Korean War (1950 - 1953), as well as those who have served since then. More than 1,500,000 Canadians have served our country in this way, and more than 100,000 have died. They gave their lives and their futures so that we may live in peace.

Bigsis Pat our Vital Stats Director from Ontario, Canada Pat created a little something on Remembrance Day on the November's Trivia site. Do be sure to check it out and let her know what you think of it.

"IT IS THE SOLDIER"

It is the soldier, not the reporter
Who gave us freedom of the press

It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech

It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a free trial

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag,
who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is
Draped by the flag, and who allows
the protester to burn the flag.

SUGAR

Hi ... if some of you may not have seen my kid - she was ten months old on 11/10/05. I got her when she was a little over 3 weeks old. Her mother was killed and so I was her mother, dad, sister and brother. So to all of you that have not seen her I thought today would be a good day to show her to you.

OOOOOOOO By the way this is what Sugar looked like about the time I got her 2/3/05 Cosby from New Mexico

Ruby worries in case your name is not on the list to receive her, since she wants to go EVERYWHERE and visit EVERYONE in the Circle. She has asked me to add anyone who lets us know on here or by visiting her new online journal. You can read up on all her travels here or have fun playing her games. Meanwhile we'll continue adding anyone's name to the list who wants a visit from Ruby, and we look forward to hearing her adventures in Brazil.

Handmade Paper

Papermaking is one of the world's oldest crafts, but it still is a fun project that leads to beautiful results. With a little work and practice, you can create paper that reflects your personal tastes, deciding what colour, texture, even what aroma your paper will have. Handmade paper can be a great gift that's easy to make, and you'll be surprised how many uses Handmade paper has in other projects. Friends and visitors will appreciate the thoughtfulness of creating your own paper for them. And you'll be surprised how much fun you'll have doing it.

SENIOR HUMOR

  • A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor's office. "Is it true," she wanted to know, "that the medication you prescribed has to be taken for the rest of my life?" "Yes, I'm afraid so," the doctor told her. There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied, "I'm wondering, then, just how serious is my condition because this prescription is marked 'NO REFILLS'."
  • An older gentleman was on the operating table awaiting surgery and he insisted that his son, a renowned surgeon, perform the operation. As he was about to get the anesthesia he asked to speak to his son. "Yes, Dad, what is it?" "Don't be nervous, son; do your best and just remember, if it doesn't go well, if something happens to me .. your mother is going to come and live with you and your wife...."
  • Aging: Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it
  • The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for
  • Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.
  • When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to youth, think of Algebra.
  • You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.
  • I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.
  • One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young.
    Ah, being young is beautiful,
    but being old is comfortable.
  • Old age is when former classmates are so gray and wrinkled and bald, they don't recognize you.
  • If you don't learn to laugh at trouble, you won't have anything to laugh at when you are old.
  • First you forget names, then you forget faces.
  • Then you forget to pull up your zipper. It's worse when you forget to pull it down.
  • Long ago when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft.. Today, it's called golf
  • A WELL PLANNED LIFE???? Two women met for the first time since graduating from high school. One asked the other, "You were always so organized in school, Did you manage to live a well planned life? " " Yes," said her friend. "My first marriage was to a millionaire; my second marriage was to an actor; my third marriage was to a preacher; and now I'm married to an undertaker." Her friend asked, "What do those marriages have to do with a well planned life?"
    "One for the money,
    two for the show,
    three to get ready,
    and four to go.

-We finally got back home today (November 9/05) at 4.30pm after chalking up almost 6,000 kilometers, travelling through the northern provinces of Argentina. We had a good time, fine weather mainly, except for one night in Salta City when it rained ........... after we had all washed the dust out of our hair, washed our clothes, and Leo had washed the car which was an indescribable colour after travelling several hundred kilometers over winding dusty roads in the mountains! In one part the road was flat and empty for kilometer after kilometer, and flush with the surrounding countryside, but some jokester had planted a "no overtaking" sign! another time we had passed several wide, bone-dry river beds and saw a sign "strictly no fishing". Then there was the the one that read "Road can be wet after rain" And finally after crossing a ford that had the tiniest trickle of water in it, a huge sign warned " Remember your breaks are wet"! We come from a part of the country where it rains frequently, so these things had us in fits. At one stage both my sis and I exclaimed at the same time " Look! a river with water in it!" it was so dry up there. Anyway we have a few interesting "travellers tales" to report, but my sis surprised me, by summing it all up in a couple of poems, which we will publish soon.

If you heard of any rioting in this city during the Summit meeting of the Americas, I think it can be put down to a bunch of hired vandals, "paid for" by the opposition to discredit the gov. ( we heard 2,000 bus loads of people had come into the city) In Buenos Aires they attacked US based businesses, but in Mar del Plata, they attacked every shop along a major commercial street, whatever the origin of the business, which was tough on the owners or managers. We did in fact run into a protest group even as far away as Salta city, but they were a pacific group.

Hope all is well with you, and hope to catch you soon when things get back to normal, though we seem to have a busy weekend ahead of us family wise. Love from Daphne from Argentina

-The weather is in the 80s here so have been doing a lot of yardwork. We moved into a new house in August so still working on things. How have you been doing? Sharon B from Fort Worth, Texas

-Today (November 8/05) will be my last day on the computer for a few days. I go in for angioplasty tomorrow morning. He is doing my L leg & both my kidneys (all are 95% blocked). He has already done the R leg (it was 100% blocked), but think he's going to have to do some more to it. My right foot is still asleep, but the leg is much better. He put in a balloon and stent. He also told me that if I didn't have it done to the kidneys that I would wind up on dialysis. Please keep me in your prayers. Hugs, Billie from the USA

-Just a bit Late but a couple things that was very funny on our trip during the flight to Washington State: Well of course this was Haley's first flight so I made sure she had the window seat. She was so amazed at the whole thing. Especially when we were way up above the clouds and looked as if we were standing still. As I watched her she kept looking out the window while up on her knees and then back at me each time she looked a bit more concerned. The she said,"MAMA GET ME OFF THE PLANE." I asked why. She said,"THE PLANE NOT WORKING!" For a minute I didn't understand then the people behind us started laughing and the man said she thinks we are sitting still. The whole side of the plane behind us started laughing. I told her it is working we are flying. She insisted she wanted off it wasn't working then a bit of turblance so she said. "OK NOW IT IS WORKING." That was on the way there. While we were there of course Papa Jim spoiled her rotten as well as Nanna Sue. He has a thing for buying her shoes that lite up. So he insisted we go shoe shopping. He picked out a pair of tennis shoes that lite when you walk or if moved a certain way. So on the way home during our flight she had to go to the bathroom. Well I sit my girls on the side of the toilet since ,"Some times men don't quite hit the right spots." Anyway there was almost NO space between her & the sink. She was moving to make her shoes lite up while sitting on the toilet and she kept looking over at them more & more and just as I was about to say you're going to tumble over...SHE DID! She was caught between the toilet and sink, bare butt in the air and shoes just a lightening up! I was laughing so hard I could barely pick her up! I started hugging her and she said, " Pull up my pants Mama." Well I did, flushed and was still laughing as we went out. They have a steward by the bathrooms to make sure you don't smoke and that you do flush. He said I didn't hear you flush but I heard you laugh. I told him & he cracked up. So that was Haley's plane trip to Washington. While there we went to the dollar store. When she is with me I always give two dollars to spend and allow her to make her choice. Well Nanna Sue & Papa Jim told her to get anything and as much as she wanted. She would pick something up and then put it back as if looking to see if she should spend her dollar on it. Papa started throwing things in & told her this is the way it is done. She looked at me & then them and started to smile. She only spent $27.00. Nanna pulled papas wallet out and handed it to Haley well Haley said Mama I don't want this and looked so funny! So she had a great time and ate lot's and lot's of McDonalds because that is her favorite place to eat and it was her trip. So we saw as much of Moses Lake Wa where they live as possible in one weekend. Had a great time. Haley says she went on 4 planes now she has to go on 5! Charla from Florida

GO BANANAS!

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!

This is interesting. After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit.

It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking & Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in "The New England Journal of Medicine, "eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

In this issue...

GO BANANAS! cont'd.

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit.
