AS TODAY COMES AROUND, HE SLIPS BACK IN TIME, REMEMBERING WHEN BREAD WAS ONLY A DIME.!
THE TIME HE WOKE UP AND REALIZED,, "THOSE ARE HIS KIDS!" WHAT HE SAID AND TAUGHT, IT MATTERED WHAT HE DID!
HE WATCHED HER PLAY BALL AS IF SHE WERE A SON. SO HE WENT OUT AND SHOWED HER HOW IT WAS "REALLY DONE."
HE WATCHED AS "THEY SLEPT," SO INNOCENT THEY WERE.
HE WONDERED IF " HIS WAY" WOULD BE THE WAY FOR SURE.
THE TIME WENT "SO FAST" AND TIMES SEEMED HARD TO RECALL.
BUT THE ONE'S HE REMEMBERS, "HE WOULDN'T TRADE AT ALL."
NOW THEY WERE ALL GROWN UP, AND BROUGHT A NEW BROOD," HIS WAY."
THESE ARE "THE ONES" WHO WILL CARRY ON HIS DAY.
THEY HAVE, " HIS THOUGHTS, HIS WAYS, AND EVEN DISLIKES'" SOMETIMES.
BUT FOR SURE "THE LOVE" HE PASSED WILL FOREVER CHIME!
SOME HAVE "HIS LOOKS," AND SOME ONLY, "HIS SMILE."
BUT NONE CAN EVER BEGIN TO " WALK HIS SAME MILE!"
HE'S A "SPECIAL GUY" TO US EIGHT, AND A "REAL DAD," TO US ALL;
HE'S ALWAYS THERE IF WE DECIDE TO CALL.
THIS TIME IN YOUR LIFE, "DAD" KICK BACK AND ENJOY.
LET MEMORIES ROLL BACK TO WHEN YOU WAS "A BOY."
SOME OF THOSE MEMORIES WILL SURELY GIVE A THRILL!
YOU CAN BE CERTAIN, YOU'RE THE "KING OF THE HILL!"

10 Tips for A Pest-Free Garden
THERE’S no greater joy for a gardener than a plot full of perfect-looking flowers or vegetables. The problem is that many garden pests use our flower and vegetable beds as a salad bar. Instead of using pesticides, try these simple, natural and cost-effective tips.
- 1. Start with “clean” soil. Good soil can actually deter pests.
- 2. Buy disease- and pest-resistant seeds from a reputable dealer. It’s easier to prevent diseases and pests than it is to get rid of them after they arrive in your garden.
- 3. Selectively and aggressively thin out plants. This is essential because small, weak seedlings are more likely to become diseased and may pass on the problem to healthy plants.
- 4. Water plants in the early morning. If you water later in the day, the leaves will be damp during the cooler nighttime—an ideal condition for promoting fungus and other diseases. When you do water, soak the roots rather than getting the foliage wet.
- 5. Control weeds, which compete with your plants for valuable resources such as water, nutrients and light. They often harbor insects and parasites, too.
- 6. Keep your garden clean. Removing faded blooms, fallen leaves and weeds is important because decaying plant matter is a prime breeding ground for fungus, insects and diseases.
- 7. Use insect traps. Yellow “sticky” cards are available at most garden centers; they’ll catch many pests that travel through your garden.
- 8. Encourage beneficial insects like ladybugs, which eat aphids, mites and the eggs and larvae of many destructive insects. Other beneficial insects include praying mantises, lacewings and parasitic wasps.
- 9. Practice crop rotation. If you grow the same crop in the same place each year, the specific pests that attack that crop will remain in the area, waiting for the next planting.
- 10. Pinch off dead or infested leaves as soon as you see them. This will stop them from contaminating the entire plant.
Healthy Eating Tips
Here are some tips for healthy eating at home, work, and elsewhere to help you get started. Try some of these ideas.
Start your day off right! Eat breakfast! Drink 100% fruit juice (canned, from a carton, or freshly squeezed) with breakfast, or take a can to drink at work. Spruce up your breakfast—a banana or handful of berries will liven up your cereal, yogurt, waffles, or pancakes. Take a piece of fruit to munch on during your commute. Wouldn’t it be easier to eat something if it was right in front of you? An easy way to make fruits and vegetables more accessible to you is to make sure you buy them. Make sense, right? So when you go grocery shopping, hit the produce section first. Then keep bowls of fruit on the kitchen table and counter. Now that you’ve bought them, eat them.
Baked potatoes, corn on the cob, bread. What do these items often have in common? We cover them with butter, right? And if we’re not careful—and we aren’t all the time—we don’t realize how much we actually use. If you must use butter use it sparingly. Even better, try jelly on your bread, bagels, and other baked goods.
Use "lite" or low-fat dairy products (e.g., milk, cheese, yogurt, or sour cream). Use in recipes and/or drink 1% or skim milk. You’ll still get the nutrients and taste but not the fat.
When you make or buy a salad, a little bit of salad dressing goes a long way. Measure 1 tablespoon of dressing and toss well with your salad. The dressing coats the salad instead of drenching it. For even more flavor, sprinkle the salad with lemon pepper before adding dressing. The same principle applies when using condiments, a little mayonnaise is all you need.
If you like to eat meat, there’s no reason you have to give it up. But you can help reduce fat by choosing the leanest cuts such as beef round, loin, sirloin, pork loin chops, turkey, chicken, and roasts. All cuts with the name "loin" or "round" are lean. And if you cook it yourself, trim all visible fat and drain the grease.
What can we say about fried foods? They taste great, but are not great for you. They’re high in fat. We’ve come up with a few suggestions that will save your arteries. Use oils sparingly (try olive and canola oils). Bake chicken without the skin. Substitute a potato for french fries.
Why do we eat snacks? They taste great, they’re easy, and they satisfy our sweet and salt cravings. And, let’s face it, crunchy food is fun. So why not make your own snacks by packing healthy, quick, and easy-to-grab foods such as little bags or containers of ready-to-eat vegetables (e.g., celery sticks, cucumber wedges, and cherry tomatoes). Or make healthier choices on snacks that are store bought, like pretzels. Keep them with you in your briefcase, office, car and home.
If you’re like most people, no matter how much you’ve eaten at dinner, there’s always room for desserts and sweets. "I’m stuffed. Couldn’t eat another bite. What’s that? You’ve got ice cream? Well, okay." You can still say "okay," just cut down on the portion size and how often you eat these items. Substitute low-fat or fat-free baked goods, cookies, and ice cream. They still taste great. Choose fruit. It tastes great, is filling, and provides energy.
One word of caution: just because something is fat free or low fat doesn’t mean you can eat as much as you want. Many low-fat or nonfat foods are also high in calories. Eat everything in moderation.
You’re in a restaurant or ordering in. When the food arrives, it’s piled so high you think there’s no way you can finish it. Sometimes it tastes so good you can’t stop. But then you’re too full. Typical restaurant servings are often twice the size of a single serving. Try this: When dining out or ordering in, ask for half of a serving or a "doggy bag." That way you won’t be as full, and you can have some tomorrow.
Fast food combines two of our favorite desires: things in a hurry and food. Unfortunately, it also tends to combine a lot of fat and calories. But it doesn’t have to if we’re careful. You can still get food in a hurry, but try these suggestions.
- Order a lean roast beef sandwich.
- Order grilled chicken sandwiches and do the fixings "your way."
- Keep the portions to regular and small. No "double" anything or "going large."
- Order items without the cheese.

- Mosquito Remedy - Pass this on to anyone who likes sitting out in the evening or when they're having a cook out. So you don't like those pesky mosquitoes, especially now that they have the potential to carry the West Nile Virus? Here's a tip that was given at a recent gardening forum. Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate. Check this out---it works just super! May seem trivial, but it may help control mosquitoes around your home, especially in the South and elsewhere where the West Nile virus is reaching epidemic proportions in mosquitoes, birds, and humans. Pass it on. Lena from Ontario, Canada
- I should have already sent this but never seem to find the time. Haley had her baby a Boy Tuesday June 7th at 3:05 pm and he is 20 1/2" long and 6lbs 3 oz. he Tried very hard to push out but Haley is still small and he had to be taken c-section. she is doing great even trying to breast feed him but he has trouble latching on so it is a struggle for her. She doesn't have the patience of an older mother to do this. They came home last Friday night and are staying here for a few more days and i really enjoy getting to hold and cuddle him so much. They will be going back home this weekend i guess. Great Granny Loretta from The Yellow Rose State - Texas

Information on ASPARTAME .... the following article has been submitted by Jeanette from the Land Down Under who asks that you please print this out and/or e-mail to your family and friends. They have a right to know too.
Do you drink diet soda? If you do -- stop drinking it NOW!! The Aspartame (marketed as 'NutraSweet,' 'Equal,' and 'Spoonful') in the diet soda will poison you ... and literally have you dying a slow and miserable death. If it says "SUGAR FREE" on the label, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!
An explaination of Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus.
Many people are being diagnosed in error. Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence ... methanol toxicity is!
Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition. Patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas.
In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, (when in reality, the disease is methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear. There has been many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly.
This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia. "If you are using ASPARTAME (NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss...you probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!"
Is it reversible?" Yes! Yes! Yes! STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels! Many products are fortified with it!!!
Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight! These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve "tissue specimens." Many products we use every day! contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body!!!
Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that some physicians, who believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance. Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE. Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, seizures, depression, manic depression, panic attacks, uncontrollable anger and rage. Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics, as well.
Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and AHD have had complete turnarounds in their behavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet. So called "behavior modification prescription drugs" (Ritalin and others) are no longer needed. Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the first place! Most of these children were being "poisoned" on a daily basis with the very foods that were "better for them than sugar."
It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.
Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e., mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy. Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners. There are many different case histories to relate of children suffering grand mal seizures and other neurological disturbances due to the use of NutraSweet.
Unfortunately, it is not always easy to convince people that Aspartame is to blame for their child's illness. Stevia, which, which is a sweet herb, NOT A MANUFACTURED ADDITIVE, helps in the metabolism of sugar, which would be ideal for diabetics. It has now been approved as a dietary supplement by the FDA. It is known that for many years the FDA outlawed this true sweet food," due to their loyalty to MONSANTO Chemical Company."
"We are talking about a plague of neurological diseases directly caused by the use of this deadly poison." Herein lies the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was included 100 different products and strong objection was made concerning it's use. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings and still, nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. Sadly, MONSANTO'S patent on Aspartame has EXPIRED!! There are now over 5,000 products on the market that contain this deadly chemical and there will be thousands more introduced. Everybody wants a "piece of the Aspartame pie." I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame, knows how deadly it is. And isn't it ironic that MONSANTO funds, among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians? This has been recently exposed in the New York Times. These cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and are required to endorse their products.
Senator Howard Metzenbaum wrote and presented a bill that would require label warnings on products containing Aspartame, especially regarding pregnant women, children and infants. The bill would also institute independent studies on the known dangers and the problems existing in the general population regarding seizures, changes in brain chemistry, neurological changes and behavioral symptoms. The bill was killed.
It is known that the powerful drug and chemical lobbies are responsible for this, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting and uninformed public. Well, you're informed now!!!! YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW!!!!

THE PASTOR'S CAT
This particular story just made me laugh. Every time I think about
it, the vision of that poor cat just amuses me. Hope the story leaves a
bright spot in your day. Whoever said the Creator doesn't have a
sense of humor? Vicki from Vancouver Island, Canada
This is a supposedly about the pastor in a small town.
He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was
afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc.
The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to
climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and
drove away so that the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get
the kitten.
That's what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car.
He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would
be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved
the car a little further forward, the rope broke. The tree went
"boing!" and the kitten instantly sailed through the air-out of sight.
The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking
people if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray
kitten. So he prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your
keeping," and went on about his business.
A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his
church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and
was amazed to see cat food. This woman was a cat hater and everyone
knew it, so he asked her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate
cats so much?"
She replied, "You won't believe this," and then told him how her
little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a
few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told
her little girl, "Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it."
She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the yard, get on
her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't
believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying
out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right
in front of her."

I hope you have enjoyed this week's issue which I would like to close with some advise on how to mend a broken heart.
Re-invest in the important relationships in your life, recognizing their integral role in helping you regain a healthy, whole lifestyle. Nourish – even pamper your body, mind and soul.
Challenge your mind, and carve out time for your soul to grow. Recommit to caring for your body through good nutrition and exercise, which has a profound impact on your mental and emotional health as well. Treat yourself to candlelit baths as often as needed. Choose to wear things that made you feel fabulous! Visit museums. Read good books. Take fitness classes and go for long walks. Write in a journal. Listen to your favourite pieces of music. Buy yourself flowers. Enrol in a poetry course at a local college.
And in the middle of it all, you will begin to find yourself . . . and ultimately, to love myself. A true, healthy love for your whole being results in a healthy love for the world around you. It becomes a life flow, a cycle, that feeds you and pours out to nurture those surrounding you.
Give equal attention to your intellect, your spirit, and your physical well-being.

My birthday was this past Wednesday and I thank each of you for your cards and phone calls. I have been trying to deal with so much that has been happening in my life these past few months and my birthday was a sad day for me but I received this message which I will try to remember and I can not tell you enough what your friendship means to me.
It’s not what happens to you that can make your life or break it.
The thing that really matters is the way you choose to take it.
You can have a "pity party" and say life’s not worth the living,
Or find some place that needs the love and help you could be giving.
You can crawl into a shell, and reach a state of deep depression,
Or count the many blessings you still have in your possession.
You can say that life’s not fair, and that you simply cannot bear it,
Or seek what’s good in life, and find a way that you can share it.
No, it’s not what happens that decides the winning or the losing.
It’s how you take it -- and you’ll find it’s strictly your own choosing.
