George and I make a side trip this week-end and thought all would like to hear about our trip and how this wonderful circle works. We found out that our dear friends Garnet, Marie and Dee Duquette from Tilbury Canada were going to be camping in Benzonia, Michigan. So we asked Marie if we could come visit them while they were in the States. Marie said yes please stop in and visit us and so we did. We left Friday July 8, 2005 at 8:30 and it was 2:00 when we arrived. We would have arrived a lot earlier but decided we would take the scenic route and so it took a little longer then it would have had we taken the expressway . But we love taking the scenic time as it is so beautiful in the upper north of Michigan.
We started our travels on M66, then on to M57 to Muskegon and then got on 31 and took it all the way up to 22 and then we drove along the lake shore of Lake Michigan on 22. We came up on a scenic drive off and what a sight it was so beautiful. One lady I chatted with had never seen Lake Michigan from that view and said it was so gorgeous and I said as many time as I have seen it, it always take my breathe away to see some of God creations. Our arrival at the camp sight where Garnet, Marie and Dee was in the afternoon and when we arrived no one was there to greet us as all had went shopping so George and I went into Benzonia which is just a short distance from the camp sight.
We asked fellow campers how to get to Benzonia and it didn't take us long to find this wonderful place it is a hub of busy busy busy but what nice people. We stop in at the Motel ROSIER and hope they would have a room we could rent for the night and we got so lucky as all the single were gone that she let us have a double for the price of a single and she had to problem with us having our dog with us. WOW she was so nice. So after getting settled into our room we went on a little tour of Benzonia and found several nice places to shop. Stop into the store and got some watermelon (and no Sharon no seed spitting as it was seedless lol).
After doing some looking around and shopping we decided it was time to go back to the camp site and see if any one had arrived back. We saw Dee as we drove in and she was so surprised and she said where Mom and Dad and I said I don't know I thought you would know. We got our hugs in and then set down and look at all the goodies that Dee had gotten in her shopping trip with some of the other campers. It wasn't long and in came Mom and Dad Duquette and Mom (Marie) said we didn't think you were coming after 1:00 had come and so we went for a drive. So we were all happy to all finally be together and had a nice set down chat and then it was time to go for supper.
A lot of the campers I think about 18 of us went to a small Cafe in Benzonia for a all you could eat fish fry. We arrived at the Cafe there was a waiting line and Marie said you can always tell a good place to eat when there it waiting line. Boy was there lots to eat and it was the best tasting food. There was 9 of us a table and the cafe was very small and crowded but no one seem to mine and we all had a great visit and meal.
After our meal we went back to the camp site and set around and had another chat and met a lot of nice people who were camping there. By the time we got back a band had set up and we got to listen to some really nice music and we stay till it started to get damp and chilly and then went back to the motel and bed. We didn't make it back for breakfast the next morning as I woke up not feeling well and so we decided we better head for home as George had to be to work on Sunday so we headed home. So ended our short but wonderful visit to Benzonia, Michigan and seeing our dear friends the Duquette's. A special thanks to Garnet and Marie and to there friends for allowing us to come for a visit. Ruth from Michigan.

Independence Day - Argentina
9th July Argentine independence weekend was full of traditional music and dance shows. The following picture is at a lunchtime show and shows Horacio and Carlos on the guitars and Leo having a go on the drum.

This next picture is a night time dance show where there were probable around 500 people celebrating the 25th anniversary of a popular folk dance group .... we are not actually taking part at that time.
The last picture is in a theater, on the Sunday, again a show put on this time for general public by the same group "Huellas Argentinas". The group we are taking classes with, also took part in that show, but the pictures turned out too dark. If someone there lets me have a better one then I'll pass it on to you. Daphne from Argentina

An Easy Way To Create Strong but Memorable Passwords - Windows All Versions
Make sure you don't make the mistake of using the same password for everything. And never use easy-to-guess passwords especially for online banking or other financial sites. A good rule-of-thumb is never to use a word that is in the dictionary, your birth date, your phone number, or your first or last name and a number. These types of passwords are very easy for a hacker to guess and with a password cracker it would only take a few seconds to try hundreds of thousands of password combinations to break your account.
Here's a tip that can help you to create a nearly unbreakable password while still being easy for you to remember (memorable). Take a line from a favorite poem or a favorite saying and use the first letter of each word of the line. For example, one of my favorite poems is "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost and my favorite line from that poem is: "The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep." Using the first letter of each word of that line twalddbihptk I can create a strong, password. And, I can easily remember what it is, because it's from my favorite poem and my favorite line from that poem. My password hint might be "frost" or "robert" or "snowy". If I had forgotten my password that hint would jog my memory. Although this password twalddbihptk contains no numbers or symbols, it is a strong password because it contains twelve (apparently) random characters and would be very difficult for anyone to guess.
And my own two cents worth, it's always a good idea to use at least one numeric character. Bigsis Pat from Ontario, Canada.

Ever run across a recipe with ingredients that you are not familiar with? Daphne from Argentina recently had a couple and I thought why not post the answers here.
Question: What is buttermilk?
Answer: You might be surprised to learn there is no butter, per se, in buttermilk, and it is lower in fat than sweet milk. Old-fashioned homemade buttermilk is the slightly sour, residual liquid which remains after butter is churned, ie. milk from the butter or buttermilk. It was usually flecked with tiny spots of sweet, creamy butter that didn't quite make it to the top to be skimmed. The flavor of buttermilk is reminiscent of yogurt and most people prefer it well-chilled. You'll find it is slightly thicker in texture than regular milk but not as heavy as cream. It takes one gallon of milk to yield one-half pint of true buttermilk. Nowadays, most commercial buttermilk is made by adding a lactic acid bacteria culture to pasteurized sweet whole milk or, more commonly skim milk or non-fat milk, and it may or may not have added butter flecks. After the addition of the culture, the milk is left to ferment for 12 to 14 hours at a low temperature (optimum 69 degrees F.). It is usually labeled cultured buttermilk and may be salted or unsalted. Most commercial varieties are salted, so check the label if you are on a sodium-restricted diet.
Question: What would "Baking Soda" be, another term not usually in my cookbooks. Is it a coarse grained salt?, bicarbonate of soda? another name for baking powder as in "Royal"? or what?
Answer: Baking soda is a chemical leavening agent that cause batters to rise when baked. The leavener enlarges the bubbles which are already present in the batter produced through creaming of ingredients. When using baking soda in a recipe, make sure to sift or whisk with the other dry ingredients before adding to the batter to ensure uniformity. Otherwise the baked good can have large holes.
Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate or bicarbonate of soda (alkali) is about four times as strong as baking powder. It is used in recipes that contain an acidic ingredient (e.g. vinegar, citrus juice, sour cream, yogurt, buttermilk, chocolate, cocoa (not Dutch-processed), honey, molasses (also brown sugar), fruits and maple syrup). Baking soda starts to react and release carbon dioxide gas as soon as it is added to the batter and moistened. Make sure to bake the batter immediately.
Baking soda has an indefinite shelf life if stored in a sealed container in a cool dry place. Too much baking soda will result in a soapy taste with a coarse, open crumb. Baking soda causes reddening of cocoa powder when baked, hence the name Devil's Food Cake.

Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer
Camping, cottaging and meals on the barbecue are summertime passions for a lot of us. In addition, more and more people travel by RV during the summer. Propane is the energy source that often powers these activities. It is versatile, economical and safe, and can be taken where no other fuels can go. Stored as a liquid and used as a gas, it will cook meals, heat the cottage or trailer, ensure a supply of hot water, and even refrigerate food. To be safe, gas barbecues require good cleaning and maintenance at the start of each season, annual safety checks, and good ventilation around the equipment. Propane cylinders must be transported in a secured, upright position, and in a well-ventilated space. For other information and safety tips please take a moment to visit Propane safety from the Canada Safety Council .
You need to handle and prepare food safely, even when you are picnicking, hiking or camping. Check out this Canadian Food Inspection Agency site for tips to keep food safe while you are having fun outdoors picnicking, hiking and camping.
Boating is also a very popular pasttime. Check out Boat Smart Canada; a resource for everyone who loves to boat - and boat safely. This website offers information on selecting lifejackets, alcohol awareness, cold water and hypothermia.
Please do not forget while you are enjoying these lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer that the single major preventable cause of dermatologic diseases is overexposure to the sun. No matter how many times people hear this, many do not listen. Please take a visit over to the Sun awareness program site for lots of helpful tips and suggestions. Also available on this site is information on preventing sun damage and diseases.
Though we hope for sun, we can face many other types of weather during the summer. This Environment Canada Website offers tips for staying safe during tornados, lightning, wind, heat waves, and floods.
Parks Canada is a great site for wilderness safety preparation. National parks are great places to view wildlife in their natural habitat but always remember to Keep the "Wild" in Wildlife!.
Finally some fun for the kids. This new Public Heath Agency of Canada's safety site shows kids how to assess risk and use knowledge to make good, safe decisions. There are a lot of neat things to do here, and tons of ideas that can help keep your children and your grandchildren and their friends from getting hurt. It includes an interactive Safety Hero game, colouring pages, and information on staying safe in water, at the playground, on the roads, and during recreation. They can Be an Action Hero and take charge of their safety by planning first, checking things out and wearing the gear!
HAVE A GREAT SUMMER
