FREEDOM isn't FREE, someone pays for you and me submitted by Crystal

THE MARINE

We all came together,
Both young and old
To fight for our freedom,
To stand and be bold.
In the midst of all evil,
We stand our ground,
And we protect our country
From all terror around.
Peace and not war,
Is what some people say.
But I'll give my life,
So you can live the American way.
I give you the right
To talk of your peace.
To stand in your groups,
and protest in our streets.
But still I fight on,
I don't bitch, I don't whine.
I'm just one of the people
Who is doing your time.
I'm harder than nails,
Stronger than any machine.
I'm the immortal soldier,
I'm a US MARINE!
So stand in my shoes,
And leave from your home.
Fight for the people who hate you,
With the protests they've shown.
Fight for the stranger,
Fight for the young.
So they all may have,
The greatest freedom you've won.
Fight for the sick,
Fight for the poor.
Fight for the cripple
Who lives next door.
But when your time comes,
Do what I've done.
For if you stand up for freedom,
You'll stand when the fight's done.

On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and Democracy was born. Every day thousands leave their homeland to come to the "land of the free and the home of the brave" so they can begin their American Dream. The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings. Through the Internet we are learning about and communicating with people of different nations, with different languages and different races throughout the world. Bringing the world closer with understanding and knowledge can only benefit all nations. We invite all nations to celebrate with Americans online this Fourth of July. Happy Birthday, America!

Ruby would like you to know that she has been busy painting and laying floors since arriving on Paradise Island inbetween going to work everyday with Sharon but she is hoping to have time to put pen to paper and write a "colourful" story sometime during this holiday Canada Day weekend!

Speaking of the Canada Day weekend; Ruby is very thankful that she was not on a ferry to Vancouver yesterday. The Queen of Oak Bay lost control and smashed into a dock at Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, British Columbia on Thursday. So far, there are no reports of injuries. Read the full story and share in the chaos that this created!

Does Ruby have your name on the list of people for her to come and visit?? Email Daphne today, and she will make sure you are added

Look forward to hearing from all of you.

Follow up on Ruby's travels so far here.

"Six Of One, A Half Dozen Of The Other ( they are the same thing ... )"

"Six of one, half-dozen of the other" says that two things which people refer to differently are actually the same thing. A "dozen" is a counting word that represents twelve (12) of some particular item, so a "half-dozen" is equal to six (6) of that item, and saying "six of one" is equal to saying "a half-dozen of the other." The "one" and the "other" refer to the two things which you are saying are not so different. Example: "I say she's a stewardess. She says she's a flight attendant. It's six of one, a half-dozen of the other." Although something has been said in two different ways, they ultimately mean the same thing.

What is your favourite saying -- send it in to me, along with its origin (meaning), if you know it, and I will publish it on our Common Expressions site.

In this issue...

The Pet Corner

The Old Poodle

A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa, taking her faithful aged poodle named Cuddles, along for the company.

One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, Cuddles discovers that she's lost. Wandering about, she notices a leopard heading rapidly in her direction with the intention of having lunch.

The old poodle thinks, "Oh, oh! I'm in deep s**t now!" Noticing some bones on the ground close by, she immediately settles down to chew on the bones with her back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the old poodle exclaims loudly, "Boy, that was one delicious leopard! I wonder if there are any more around here?"

Hearing this, the young leopard halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. "Whew!", says the leopard, "That was close! That old poodle nearly had me!"

Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard. So off he goes, but the old poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figures that something must be up. The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard.

The young leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says, "Here, monkey, hop on my back and see what's going to happen to that conniving canine!"

Now, the old poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, "What am I going to do now?", but instead of running, the dog sits down with her back to her attackers, pretending she hasn't seen them yet, and just when they get close enough to hear, the old poodle says: "Where's that damn monkey? I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!"

Moral of this story ..... Don't mess with old farts. Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill! Bullshit and brilliance only come with age and experience!

  • Hope all is well with you and you also have a great holiday weekend. I'm going to White Face Mountain in New York. This will be my third time going there. I have not been able to get all the way to the top. Either weather stops us or something is going on. Also going to the North Pole in NY. I have a few questions for Santa as to how come I never received whatever I asked for. I know I was a good girl. (Ha-Ha!)Another stopped will be to visit a pen-pal in Plattsburgh, NY, which is near Lake Placid. No, there isn't any Alligators in that lake like they showed in the Movie. But have to admit it is a tourest trap. My pen-pal Marion and the Flower shop where she works put a cookbook together and all proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald house. I am proud to say I have several of my recipes in that book. The book is called Counrty Expressions by family and Friends. This is the second time my recipes hit the press. Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. Carol in NY.
  • You will soon see a lot of people wearing RED on Fridays. Here's why.....

The Americans who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, would like to start a grassroots movement using the membership of the Special Operations Association, and Special Forces Associations, and all their friends, simply to recognize that Americans support our troops. We need to inform the local VFW's and American Legion, our local press, local TV, and continue carrying the message to the national levels as we start to get this going. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday, and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every RED - blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV — let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of RED much like a home football game at a university.

If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear RED!

Let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

Please forward this to everyone you know!!

Wear RED on Fridays. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.

    Bille from Byhalia, MS, USA.

  • Daphne has been busy with home renovations this past while ... please enjoy these bedroom "before" and "after" pictures.

With the "before pic" we were sleeping for several weeks with the walls in that state and the wall lamps just hanging by a thread. Then that wall and below the window were stripped back to the brickwork, creating loads of dust and rubble.

With the "after pic", there is still a wall lamp missing as Leo wanted to change them both, and I have also added in the corner a triangular shelf set suspended from the wooden ceiling for my knick-knacks. Ah, the wall hanging was from Ruth, sometime ago!. I still have the quilt cover to finish.

  • Just to let you know Charlie and my health seems be on the mend. If only the rain would stop down here. In our 28 days it's rained for 25 which is not good for the old bones. Charlie's been back to work and I enjoy that. All for now Marie [Fl Marie]
  • Just a short note to let you all know how things are going here in FLORIDA, well, not only is Jb till in NY, yesterday I had to give up my poodle ... yes after 5 years, of watching him grow, and play and become my best friend , it broke my heart to do this, I cried all day, and in fact as I'm writing this tears fill my eyes, Peppy (the poodle) was my best and only friend here in Florida, it hurts so bad. See we bought a trailer in NY to live in, it is in a park and no dogs allowed. I asked God, what have we done to have all this stress. This moving to Florida was a nightmare .... everything we had or have, is gone! Bea

The WWWCOF is proud to boast of members with a wide variety of religious beliefs. My daughter Kendra has just become a recent convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and her Baptism will be on July 23rd, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.

She extends an invitation to each of the WWWCOF members to come to her Baptism. For many this will be impossible but hopefully some of you will have time to email her. She will treasure your emails forever and they will be part of her Faith Memory Album, a project of love that she and I will be working on.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.
