Hi! Im back on English soil now. It's not too cold or wet, but quite mild, weak winter sun, quite pleasent really. My flight was long and boring, we were delayed by 1.30 hours at Bairlzial but that not too much to grudge about; I missed my conecting coach but there was another two hours later so that wasnt bad either. I now have to start looking for work so that I can go back again in 7 years time ( as promisted) but I can't get work straight away because of the rules and laws for the work I do. No bad thing really its to protect the innocent and weed out the rot. Have to go now, by the time I wrote to Daphne ect. time is gone. Take care - Sylvie

Ruby has arrived safe and sound "back home" with Jeanette in Melbourne Australia and her site has been updated. Look forward to hearing and adding to Ruby's adventures back home in Aussieland. Daphne has removed the web journal that no one visited and put in its place a forum, so anyone can go in and leave their messages for Ruby and /or get on her visiting list. She has also put in a translator in the pages in both Spanish and Portuguese. Ruby must surely have some tales to tell .... over and above what she gets in her journal!!!
Ruby has her own games section where you can play countries and capitals hangman, tic tac toe, a variety of Ruby's own jigsaw puzzles among others, and Ruby would love you to stop by for what she calls her "chocolate milkshake break time". Have fun, and Happy New Year everyone!

Just a quick note to let you know that I have been having making scarves using "Fun Fur" yarn and they are turning out awesome and I thought I would share some tips that I discovered on the reverse side of one of the Lion Brand balls of yarn:
- Fun Fur can be used to make entire accessories such as scarves, boas, wraps, bags and hats;
- Work Fun Fur with another yarn to create a more substantial fabric. This method is an ideal way to make a fun faux fur jacket;
- Fun Fur can also be used as an accent on cuffs and collars;
- For an easy "animal print" look, combine two strands of Fun Fur and work a collar and cuff or scarf. Black and Champagneare ideal colours for this treatment;
- Fun Fur is a novel trim for a small crocheted or knitted bag;
- When knitting, count your stitches often. You can inadvertently knit 2 stitches together. If this happens, simple increase a stitch to get back to your original stitch number.

Do be sure to take a moment to email them and say hello from your corner of the globe!

Anyway my sister Sylvia has left, and should have reached home by midday Wednesday, I still haven't heard how her trip was home was, her only means of communication doesn't seem to be functioning. I keep finding touching little reminders of her visit around my house, and keep wishing she didn't have to have gone back. While we were in Buenos Aires we suffered a 40+ heatwave, which fortunately broke with an earlymorning thunderstorm .... that night it had been 35ÂșC at midnight. When Leo and I returned to Mar del Plata after seeing her off, it was raining, but Mar del Plata was pleasant and sunny.. there are thousands of tourists here. As we came into the city, we were delayed by the results of an accident. Apparently a truck had taken a roundabout too fast and had overturned smashed up its container, throwing the meat it carried all over the place. Today the newspaper stated that within minutes, tourists and public alike had made off with all the meat, over 12.000 kilos of it!!! I am not at all sure that "it fell off the back of a truck" really applies here!!! hahaha! Anyway by the time we got there the place was just swarming with police cars and oggling public making it very difficult to maneuver around that roundabout.
I have since updated the Mother's site in the health section with a note I recieved from Charla, and one or two other things I have had hanging around.

Ruth from Michigan shares this from the The BARRY COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY
Dear JoBeth,
When we adopted our kitten from the animal shelter recently, one of the workers there said it was a female, without even looking. When I asked how he knew he said it was a calico and that all calico cats are female. Is that true? We love her very much, and were just curious about what he said ..... Signed Curious Cat Owners
Dear Owners,
Yes it is estimated that 99.99 percent of all calico cats are females. I'm sure there are people out there who can remember having a calico tom cat, but I've never seen one. Curious fact, isn't that? I'd be interested in learning more about the genetics that cause this, wouldn't you? Gotta be a reason.
You may be interested in the following facts and figures that were gleaned from the book "227 Secrets Your Cat Wants You to Know" by Paulette Copper and Paul Noble. I'll bet there are at least a couple here you didn't already know.
1 - The average mass-produced cat meal is the nutritional equivalent of eating five mice.
2 - Canned cat food is calculated to have the same proportion of liquid in it as mice and other cat prey --about 80 percent.
3 - Cats recognize different dog breeds. If they're raised with certain breeds of dogs, they may not frightened of others of that breed but may be scared by other breeds of dogs.
4 - Cats can donate blood to other cats.
5 - Only the cat, the camel, and the giraffe walk by using the front and hind legs on one side and then the front and hind legs of the other.
6 - The cat is the only clawed animal that walks on her claws instead of on her paw pads.
7 - Some white cats, especially blue-eyed or odd-eyed cats, suffer from congenital deafness.
8 - All cats are born with blue eyes.
9 - There are almost no entirely black cats, although they were once very common. Usually, they have some white coloration because totally black cats were considered bad luck and were not kept or bred.
10 - Cats have four kinds of hairs that correspond roughly to under, middle, protective coats and whiskers. (Did you know that a cat has 120,000 to 130,000 hairs per square inch on her belly?)
11 - A cat's tongue is scratchy because it's lined with papillae -- little elevated backward hooks that help hold prey in place.
12 - Cats scratch not to sharpen their claws but to shed the sheaths of the old claws. This process is said to be like sharpening a pencil.
13 - Cats have trouble climbing down trees because all their claws point in on direction -- forward -- which is perfect for climbing up, but not for going down.
14- Though we're more than 10 times the size of cats, we have about the same number of bones. Most cats' bones are in their tails.
15 - More U.S. homes have either cats or dogs living in them than have children.
16 - There are about 62 million cats in the United States.
17 - Almost half of all households with cats own two or more of them.
18 - There may be as many as 25 million homeless cats in the United States.
19 - A 12 - year - old cat may have spent as many as 3 years of her life grooming herself.
20 - A 15 - year - old cat may have "lived" only 5 to 7 years, because she's spent 10 years sleeping.
You are to be commended, Curious Cat Owners, for adopting your kitten from your local animal shelter. You've done your good deed! Now be sure to get her to your vet, if you haven't already, to get the rest of her shots and set an appointment for her spraying. You don't want to add to the number of homeless cats mentioned above. Thanks for writing, and have a good time with your kitten!
So much to see and do in Florida so be sure to mark down the dates for Reunion 2006 on your calendars. This historic event will take place March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) to March 20th, 2006. Can't wait to meet you there!

Funeral Potatoes "Also called "Ward Party Potatoes," "Christmas Potatoes," "Potato Casserole" I'm sure many other names - but the most famous is Funeral Potatoes because it is often served at funerals and Church parties in Utah. "
Ingredients:
- 6 cups diced potatoes*
- 1 can (10 3/4 oz.) condensed cream chicken soup
- 1/2 soup can milk
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 1/4 cup grated onion (optional) **
- salt and pepper to taste
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3/4 cup corn flake crumbs
Cook fresh potatoes or thaw frozen potatoes (see * note below). Place potatoes in a 2-3 quart casserole dish or a 9x13 cake pan.
Combine soup, milk, sour cream, cheese, and onion (see ** note below) and salt and pepper to taste. If a saucier dish is desired, add 2-3 tablespoons additional milk. Mix well. Spread sauce over potatoes.
Melt butter and combine with corn flake crumbs. Sprinkle crumbs over casserole. Bake uncovered at 350 F for 30-45 minutes or until hot and bubbly throughout.
Notes:
* Use approximately 6-8 peeled, diced, and cooked fresh potatoes; or approximately 2 pounds frozen, southern style, diced hash browns (not shredded).
** Use 1 tablespoon dried onion or saute 1/4 cup fresh chopped onion in 1 tablespoon butter until transparent.
There are probably as many variations in how to make this dish, as there are names for it. Whatever you call it (or how you make it) it is tasty dish, which is often served with ham and green beans. Recipe serves approximately 8.
Create Your Own Bouquet -- lots of fun ... Enjoy!
