Hello everyone!

TOAST TO BRING IN THE NEW YEAR!

submitted by Susan from Ontario, Canada.

May your home always be too small
To hold all of your friends.

May you live as long as you want
And never want as long as you live.

May the good Lord take a liking to you,
But not too soon.

May you have warm words on a cold evening,
A full moon on a dark night,
And the road downhill all the way to your door.

May your neighbors respect you,
Trouble neglect you,
The angels protect you, and heaven accept you.

Dance as if no one were watching,
Sing as if no one were listening
And live every day as if it were your last.

Isn't that ever so lovely, thank you Susan, and now on to business, looks like 2005 is going to be a very busy year for the World Wide Web Circle of Friends!

Challenges, setbacks and curveballs give our lives flavour and texture. They show us what we're made of, show us what we can do and show us a side of life we might never see in a perfect world.

Lets share our challenges, setbacks and curveballs with each other.

Becky has joined the Planet Kryzys" Team and has started a Recycle Message Board on our MSN Community. Do be sure to check it out!

As discussed in last week's newsletter, raising awareness is always the first step to action. Have you visited our new website, Planet Kryzys" (Crisis). If not do be sure to do so and come forward with things about your own area. We start off with awareness, and follow up with what we can do about it.

For more information on this site please email Daphne from Argentina.

oh, and by the way.....

with regards to our New Year's Challenge -- Trees Around The World

Did you plant your tree yet? Remember trees are a good symbol of dedication to a better quality of life for all. Show some incentive, plant a tree, and remember enthusiasm about a project or goal is contagious. Together we WILL make a difference.

Hope your tree is planted so you can put that challenge behind you as The Planet Kryzys Team is on to yet another new Circle Challenge, find or design a suitable banner for the Planet Kryzys" (Crisis)site, which then gets voted on, and the winning design could win a prize (one of the Circle's CD books) Entries are to be sent to Daphne from Argentina and will be included in the newsletter, and on the site. Deadline for submissions is February 28th, 2005. Good Luck!

Crafts

Craft of the Month

January 2005 - Valentines' Cards

Crafty Jayne from Kansas, USA and Loretta, aka Angel Patch from Texas, USA have put their heads together as to what to start the New Year with for the new "Craft of the Month" and have decided that since Valentines is approaching why not make Valentines Cards to give to our sweetheart, best friends, or our children. It doesn't matter if you have ever been a paper crafter or not. It is so much fun to learn so join us in doing it together and see what we can do with paper, stamps, buttons, lace, etc. There are so many items we can use with paper.

Be sure to check out all the wonderful craft ideas in the WWWCOF Craft Site and add your own favourites or email Crafty Jayne from Kansas, USA, who will be happy to add them to our ever growing collection.

  • WISHING YOU AND YOURS A NEW YEAR FILLED WITH MUCH LAUGHTER, LOVE AND GOOD HEALTH! LOVINGLY, ARLENE & LARRY from the USA

  • January 7/05 - I hope you had a wonderful Holiday Season,it was awsome for us,it was like God answered my prayers, Bob was really good over Christmas, and we both enjoyed Christmas with the children. Bob is going down hill again, but we have a wonderful Doctor who is coming to the house and she has gave him medication for the pain in his arm and shoulder, which is comming from the tension in his brain. It dosn't let up and he says it goes right to the bone. Bob's older sister went home to God on the 15 of Dec. and we got through that pretty good. I am so grateful that if this was to be our last Christmas than it was great for us all. I really do appricate the time we have left and I have finally come to terms with what is to happen; it is very hard watching some one you love go down hill, and I appricate what Charla shared with me it is a great gift to be able to be with that person till they leave you, I think you get a wake up call, enjoy today and and hope they next days ahead are just as good. I also appreciate all my friends they have been there for me all the way. My Sister Anne has been a great strength,I think she has been my angel on earth. Talk to you soon, and thanks for everything. Dorothy from Ontario, Canada. Please enjoy a look at this site

  • January 9/05 - I am not quite with it as I am on the hospital trail. Had to take my husband, Alan, up to Emergency as his heart beat went out of rhythm, and tightness in the chest. He is now in the cardiac ward and looks too healthy to be in there!! He is all wired up to the monitor and his pulse rate is still jumping all over the place. He has had two needles in the stomach and due a third. Hope they do the trick and get the beat back into normal rhythm quickly. It happened 3 years go come Easter, so was not quite so traumatic this time, we knew what to expect. The heart specialist will be doing his rounds tomorrow morning so the sister said (he was supposed to be in today as it is his weekend on call - still waiting). Daisy from New South Wales, Australia

Just for Fun

The teacher was very curious about how each of her students celebrated Christmas Eve.

"Tell me, Patrick, what do you do on Christmas Eve?" she asked. Patrick addressed the class: "Well, Miss, me and my brothers and sisters go to church at midnight and we sing hymns, then we come home very late and we put mince pies by the back door and hang up our stockings. We go to bed and wait for Santa Claus to come with all our toys."

"Very nice, Patrick. Now, Jimmy Brown, what do you do?" "Well, Miss, me and my sister go to church with Mom and Dad and we sing carols and we get home ever so late. We put cookies and milk by the chimney and we hang up our stockings. We hardly sleep waiting for Santa Claus to bring our presents."

Remembering there was a Jewish boy in the class and not wanting to leave him out of the discussion, she asked, "Now, Isaac Cohen, what do you do on Christmas Eve?" "Well, Miss, it's the same old thing every year. Dad comes home from the office. We all pile into the Rolls and drive to his toy factory. When we get inside we look at all the empty shelves and sing, 'What a friend we have in Jesus'. Then we go to the Bahamas."

Tips & Recommendations

Vanquishing Viruses

Computer viruses can slip into anyone's computer. Don Foreman, president of Foretronix Computer Consulting in Toronto, offers tips to help you protect yours.

  • Viruses often come through attachments, so don't open any you aren't expecting.
If a friend is forwarding an attached joke, it's probably better not to open it. Their computer could be infected, and they could transfer the virus to yours unknowingly.
Ask people to cut and paste information right into the body of the e-mail.
  • If you have a PC, once a week, go to your Windows Update feature on the Start menu and follow instructions to protect your operating system for emerging viruses identified by Microsoft.
  • Don't click Yes or No to pop-ups; just close them by clicking the X in the upper right-hand corner. Purchase an antivirus program, such as Symantec Norton Antivirus or Mcafee Virus-Scan, and keep it running at all times. The new Windows XP with Service Pack 2 has a firewall that's always on built right into the operating system.
  • Back up your data on a separate disk; if you get a virus, you won't lose files.

  • Wondering if you have spyware lurking about on your computer. Go to search or find from your start menu and type in *ndn*.* and you will find out. If the search finds sypware just highlight it and delete it from your system!
Be sure to visit our Geek's Corner - This is the page where Circle members can help each other solve problems with their computers, web pages, design and related articles. Questions? or do you need additional information? Email Daphne from Argentina and she will be more than happy to help you out. Do you have any tips or recommendations that you would like to pass along to the other members. Email me and I will get it published.

Questions & Answers

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?

  • (F)ather
  • (A)nd
  • (M)other
  • (I)
  • (L)ove
  • (Y)ou

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, we could easily be replaced at work? But the family we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. So, why do we pour ourselves more into work than into our own families?

My much older brother, Wayne and his lovely wife, Jenny from Edmonton, Alberta remind us to invest our time wisely.

Health Watch

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital. Tell as many people as possible about this. It could save their lives!!

Please forward this on - thank you. Jeanette from the Land Down Under who would like you to have a look at this beautiful site

Recipes

I went to the site and emailed a request for my free copy of the Food Finder. Not sure if it is available only in Canada or not, so why not just go ahead and email them and see what happens!

Ruth from Michigan's Pizza Dip

  • 1 8-oz package of cream cheese soften
  • 1 cup of pizza sauce
  • 2 cups of pizza cheese
  • Italian Seasoning
In flat dish spread the soften cream cheese then top with pizza sauce, then the cheese sprinkle the amount of Italian Seasoning you would like on it and Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. It works great dipping crackers, chips, and bread sticks.

Do you have a recipe for us to enjoy? We would love for you to add it to all the wonderful recipes being collected in the WWWCOF Cookbook or email The Recipe Lady aka Claudia who will be happy to add them for you.

Travelling Mascott

Ruby's site has been updated! Read all about our globe trotting mascot in her journal by clicking on the picture of her logo!

Email Ruby and don't be surprised when you see your message in her online journal! I know she would love to hear from you.

Ruby's next port of call will be decided at the end of January so if you want to get your name on the list for Ruby to visit you, just drop a line to Daphne from Argentina and she will add you. Who knows, yours just might be the name little Agos picks out.... as she is the one in charge of the draws.

NOTICE!!!

You will see some changes with the Celebrations calendar. At the bottom of the page are Next and Back buttons, that you can use to navigate through the months.

The calendar has gotten so big, that when I was doing work on it, it would take forever to load in. So broke it down into smaller "pieces" so that each month is on a separate page. Hopefully this will make it easier for you as well.

Let's Do Lunch

What for exciting news about the next member lunch!

I hope you have enjoyed this issue of 2005 which I would like to close with my thoughts on friendship. Friendship is voluntary and that is what makes it so valuable.

The WWWCOF proudly boasts of intergenerational bonding of its members which results in many new perspectives and insigths. Take joy in living each day to the fullest and try to make 2005 the year to take the time to make a new friends from within our circle. Friends are so specially rewarding; they change our lives. They can change our views of the world, our relationsips and ourselves. Over the years I have come to realize that the bonding experienced by many of the members of the WWWCOF imparts a sense of the unusual in our often ordinary lives!

Here is yet another challenge for each of you -- impress someone with your honesty, your wit and your lack of pretense. Make someone laugh as it is contagious and always be compassionate and open minded.

Open your minds to the possibilities and if there is to be a key word in this message I suppose it would be optimism.

All that being said please remember that Valentine's Day is not far off so no time like the present to practice letting your inner romantic spirit run free. Valentine's isn't just a day, IT'S AN ATTITUDE and the four basic food groups in celebration of Valentine's Day, of course are:

  • milk chocolate;
  • dark chocolate;
  • white chocolate and
  • chocolate truffles!!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK
