February 11/05 Issue

Online Newsletter

Hello everyone and Welcome to our Valentine's Issue

I would like to start this week's edition off with the following email that I received from Daisy Pat/Brit Brat from England.

MOMENTS IN LIFE

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real!

When the door of happiness closes, another opens; but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one, which has been opened for us.

  • Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
  • Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
  • Go for someone who makes you smile,
  • because it takes only a smile to
  • make a dark day seem bright.
  • Find the one that makes your heart smile.
  • Dream what you want to dream;
  • go where you want to go;
  • be what you want to be,
  • because you have only one life
  • and one chance to do all the things
  • you want to do.
  • May you have enough happiness to make you sweet,
  • enough trials to make you strong,
  • enough sorrow to keep you human and
  • enough hope to make you happy.
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

  • The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past;
  • you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
  • When you were born, you were crying
  • and everyone around you was smiling.
  • Live your life so at the end,
  • you're the one who is smiling and everyone
  • around you is crying.
  • Don't count the years-count the memories ...........
  • Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take;
  • but by the moments that take our breath away!

Recipes

Fortune Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 6 egg whites (use fresh eggs)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 jar of coloured sugar crystals
Directions:

  • Write 20 fortunes on 2 by 1/2 inch strips of colurful paper. For Valentines's Day, make them about love!
  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Using a sifter, sift flour, granulated sugar, and cornstarch together in a large bowl. Add the vegetable oil, three of the egg whites, water, vanilla extract, and 2tbs. sugar crystals (try red for Valentine's Day -- green for St. Patty's etc.) Stir well to form a thick dough.
  • Grease a sheet of aluminum foil with melted butter. Drop teaspoons of dough on foil 4 inches apart. Flatten each dough ball into a 4 inch round shape by pressing a juice glass on it. Beat the rest of the egg whites in a small bowl. Using a basting brush, baste both sides of each dough circle with egg whites. Sprinkle sugar crystals all over both sides.
  • Bake 15 minutes or until dough turns lightly golden. Remove one cookie at a time from oven with a wide spatula. Place on wax paper. Carefully (they'e hot!) place one fortune paper in the center of each cookie; neatly fold each cookie in half lenghwise, then bend them into a cresent shape. Let cool one hour. Store in an airtight container to keep them crunchy.
Tip The cookies should harden within 20 seconds of coming out of the oven, so have a friend or many friends help you fold them, or bake only four at a time at first to practice being quick. Work your way up to doing all 20 at once.

Do you have a recipe for us to enjoy? We would love for you to add it to all the wonderful recipes being collected in the WWWCOF Cookbook or email The Recipe Lady aka Claudia who will be happy to add them for you.

OK - Now that you've made your choice, this is what research says about you!

  • ANGEL FOOD CAKE.. Sweet, loving, cuddly. You love all warm and fuzzy items. A little nutty at times. Sometimes you need an ice cream cone at the end of the day. Others perceive you as being childlike and immature at times.
  • BROWNIES... You are adventurous, love new ideas, are a champion of under dogs and a slayer of dragons. When tempers flare up, you whip out your saber. You are always the oddball with a unique sense of humor and direction. You tend to be very loyal.
  • LEMON MERINGUE... Smooth, sexy, & articulate with your hands, you are an excellent after-dinner speaker and a good teacher. But don't try to walk and chew gum at the same time. A bit of a diva at times, but you have many friends.
  • VANILLA CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE ICING... Fun-loving,sassy, humorous. Not very grounded in life; very indecisive and lack motivation. Everyone enjoys being around you, but you are a practical joker. Others should be cautious in making you mad. However, you are a friend for life.
  • STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE... Romantic, warm, loving. You care about other people and can be counted on in a pinch. You tend to melt. You can be overly emotional at times.
  • CHOCOLATE ON CHOCOLATE... Always ready to give and receive. Very creative, adventurous, ambitious, and passionate. You can appear to have a cold exterior but are warm on the inside. Not afraid to take chances. Will not settle for anything average in life. Love to laugh.
  • ICE CREAM... You like sports, whether it be baseball, football, basketball, or soccer. If you could, you would like to participate, but you enjoy watching sports. You don't like to give up the remote control. You tend to be self-centered and high maintenance.
  • CARROT CAKE... You are a very fun loving person, who likes to laugh. You are fun to be with. People like to hang out with you. You are a very warm hearted person and a little quirky at times. You have many loyal friends.

The truck driver does nothing, just pays his check and leaves. "That truck driver ain't much of a fighter," says one of the bikers. "He aint much of a driver, either" says the waitress, looking out the window. "He just drove over three motorcycles!".

News & Announcements

Loretta from Texas thought you would like to hear about Joe Arpario. She loves it and wishes we had more like him around.

TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.

THIS IS SOME OF THE REASONS WHY:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) who created the "tent city jail":

He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies.

He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value.

When the inmates complained, he told them, "This isn't the ritz. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.

When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

More on the Arizona Sheriff:

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts.

On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before.

Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks.

"It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 = years. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates:

"It's 1! 20 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!"

Way to go, Sheriff! Maybe if all prisons were like this one there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders. Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.

Sheriff Joe was just reelected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona.

DISCLAIMER: Can't wait to hear your reaction to this!

Health Watch

I am emailing all of you to ask that you make sure you are up to date on your mammograms. For the guys please make sure the women in your lives are also.

We just got a call the other day that John's 40 year old niece, in Georgia, passed away at 12:00 noon. At first we were under the impression she had stomach cancer but after talking to het twin sister we found out it was breast cancer and the lining of her stomach was raw from medications. She had a mass removed about 4 years ago and I guess this time it wasn't caught. She died only 2 weeks after finding out she had it again. No one was notified about her being in the hospital per her request, so it was quite a shock! Charla from Florida, USA

Tips & Recommendations

WD-40

The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a "water displacement" compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation, thus WD-40. The Corvair Company bought it in bulk to protect their Atlas missile parts. The workers were so pleased with the product, they began smuggling (also known as "shrinkage" or "stealing") it out to use at home.

The executives decided there might be a consumer market for it and put it in aerosol cans. The rest, as they say, is history.

It is a carefully guarded recipe known only to four people. Only one of them is the "brew master." There are about 2.5 million gallons of the stuff manufactured each year. It gets its distinctive smell from a fragrance that is added to the brew. Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you.

Jeanette from Australia received this from her friend in Sydney - it is interesting and thought that you might like to have fun with these. She says she has been using WD-40 for over 40 years and didn't know all these uses ... she is going to try this on her electric glass stove top and will let us know the results.

Have fun with these. I have been using WD-40 for 40 + years and didn't know all of these uses.

  • When you read the "shower door" part, try it. It's the first thing that has cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works just as well as on glass. It's a miracle!
  • Then try it on your stovetop...Viola! It's now shinier than it's ever been. You'll be amazed.
  • *Protects silver from tarnishing
  • *Cleans and lubricates guitar string

  • *Lubricates gear shift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers.
  • *Rids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises
  • *Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open.
  • *Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close
  • *Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well as vinyl bumpers.

  • *I have even heard of folks spraying it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve arthritis pain.
  • *Florida's favorite use was "cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers.
  • *The favorite use in the state of New York--WD-40 protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements.
  • *WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big one in no time. Also it's a lot cheaper than the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose. Keep in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing are not allowed in some states.
  • *Use it for fire ant bites, it takes the sting away immediately, and stops the itch.
  • *WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag.
  • *Also, if you've discovered that your teenage daughter has washed and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-40 and rewash. Presto! Lipstick is gone!
  • *If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow the car to start. (If I knew what a distributor cap was, it might help)
  • *WD-40, long known for its ability to remove leftover tape mung (sticky label tape), is also a lovely perfume and air freshener! Sprayed liberally on every hinge in the house, it leaves that distinctive clean fresh scent for up to two days! (That's a joke, it smells like an industrial spray!)
  • *Seriously though, it removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor!
  • *Use WD-40 for those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. It doesn't seem to harm the finish and you won't have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off.
  • *Just remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks.

INTELLIGENCE FOR YOUR LIFE
The John Tesh Radio Show Archives

Here Are Natural Ways to Feel High on Life

We would be remiss in our duties if we didn’t get you feeling great every day…So here are natural ways to feel high on life, just by using your 5 senses. This advice comes from Dr. Hyla Cass, a clinical professor of psychiatry at UCLA…

And the doctor recommends – using your mouth. Fill up on foods that digest slowly. This keeps your blood sugar, energy, and alertness steadier. Good choices are yogurt, plums, oranges, peanuts and legumes.

· Next, use your nose and sniff scents that invigorate your mood, like clove, lemon and eucalyptus.

· Use your eyes. Just looking at the colors red and white will enhance your mood. Yellow and magenta energize.

· Use your fingers. A hug from a friend or petting a dog can decrease stress levels and raise ‘feel good’ endorphins.

And lastly, you can use your ears to feel high on life by listening to uplifting music.

Here’s your healthy day at a glance

I have some health numbers you need to remember. It’s everything you need to have a great day from the moment you wake up til your head hits the pillow again. These come from Glamour magazine. The first health number you need:

· 1 – take one multivitamin a day.

· 2 – Take 2 calcium supplements a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. Swallowing them both at the same time won’t do your bones as much good because your body can’t absorb all that calcium at once.

· The next health number you need every day: 5 – Drink 5 glasses of water every day. I know what you’re thinking – “I thought I needed 8 glasses!” Well, research shows that 5 glasses is all most healthy people need to stay hydrated. If you exercise regularly, you’ll need more.

· Next: 8 – You need 8 hours of sleep every day.

· How about 15 – Wear 15 SPF sunblock every day, even if it’s cloudy. You don’t want wrinkles do you? Or worse, skin cancer.

· The next health number: 30. How many times have we said this? 30 minutes of cardio exercise, 3 days a week.

· And the final health number you need every day, 100: If you’re like the majority of Americans, you could stand to lose a pound or two. 100 is the number of calories you should cut per day to shed 10 pounds by this time next year. And you can cut those 100 calories by skipping the mayo or asking for skim instead of full fat milk in your coffee. Easy right?

Streamline Your Life

If you’re crazed from the minute you wake up until you crash at night, you need to simplify your life.

So I found some information that’ll help from psychologist Thomas Spencer. He says these 4 steps will streamline your life.

Step #1: Get rid of most of your clothes. Yup, you heard right! Most people only wear 20% of the clothes they own. The other 80% just adds confusion and stress to our lives when we look at our closets in the morning and try to decide what to wear. So if you haven’t worn it in a year, put it in storage or donate it to charity.

Step #2: to streamline your life: Clear off your desk. When we see clutter, we subconsciously become stressed. So clear off your desk, you’ll instantly feel more relaxed – and when you’re relaxed, you get more done.

Step #3: Shorten your to-do list. When we see a long list, we feel overwhelmed – and that can cut our productivity in half! Instead, just write 3 things on your list everyday, and put them in order of priority.
You’ll feel better at the end of the day because you’ll be able to get all the tasks on your list done, instead of stressing because you only got 3 out of 10 things done. You’re fooling yourself basically but it works.

And the fourth and final step to a streamlined life according to Dr. Thomas Spencer: Take the scenic route to work. Even if you’re stuck in traffic, you’ll be less stressed and frustrated. Research was done on subjects driving in congestion on a scenic route. And after they got where they were going, they scored better on tests to gauge their frustration – and they also completed tasks faster than those driving the ugly way to work.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK
