Hello everyone!
I would like to start this week's issue off with The Twelve Days Of Christmas sent in by Marie Linder from Florida.
There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me. What in the world do leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?
From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.
The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
Two turtledoves were the Old and New Testaments.
Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit: Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.
The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.
So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol.

Thought you might want to hear about this Wonderful day I had, Friday 17th, It certainly was a one of a kind.
Oh my new name is now :
"THE LOCK OUT QUEEN!"
What a day yesterday!
- Got up & had a massive headache to begin with.
- Then on my way to the grocery, just over the bridge where I have to go, there was an accident and had traffic held up for at least 20 minutes. Gas tank almost on empty because I didn't pay attention when I left.
- Got through that then went to post office & got stamps, Almost got run over from my car to the building,
- then when I was going down the back way to Walmart, some guy ran a stop sign & almost hit the side of my car.
- I went grocery shopping and when I was ready to use my bank card it had a scratch on it so the manager had to come & key it all in. This took about 30 minutes.
- I was on my way out the doors & the buzzers went off like I took something! The guy walking next to me was stealing a CD! Of course we all got stopped.
- Then I went to the car...put my purse & cell phone in first because a couple of guys looked suspicious and I didn't want them to get my purse. I turned around to start getting the groceries & my "BIG BUTT," hit the only unlocked door so I was locked out with No Purse, No Cell Phone, No Money but a whole basket full of groceries! Tried to make the window go down with NO LUCK.
- Went back in Walmart (me & groceries) to call John for help. They wouldn't let me call long distance! So a wonderful Lady gave me her cell to use.
- I then went out and waited on the bench for John....guess what? I forgot to tell him where I was! So here he is going to Winn Dixie & Food Lion looking for me and finally to Walmart.
- I was almost in tears and a lady about 70 years old, came by & said how are you? I said locked out of my car. She said I know what you mean when "WE" get "OUR AGE"....it is easy to do!!
- I started laughing so hard....now I must look her age!!
PS. The reason I am now the Lock out queen is because I did almost the same thing at Mom & Dad's during a family gathering a few months ago, only John & I both had our keys in the locked car! Oh how we had fun!!
