Christmas Thoughts
Dedicated to: Margie Nell LinderWhen I wake up on Christmas morning this year 2007, it will be different from all the rest. There will be a large part missing from all of us.
Her calling your name over and over or telling me what she needs for Christmas oh and don't forget her birthday December 31. She is already telling me what she wants for her birthday too. You have to watch every minute or someone's comb, lighter, brush, and maybe make up would somehow jump into her sock and she had no idea how it got there! You had 6 beers in the fridge and an hour later you came back and only have 3! No one around but her and they even put the cans back in the fridge "EMPTY." She didn't do it .... while looking out the window at the kitchen table with "THAT LOOK," on her face. Not only did she Thank the cashier when shopping but a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and Happy Birthday. You had a full pack of cigs, minus one on the kitchen table when you went to bed and she was asleep. You get up in the morning and you have, maybe 8 left! She doesn't know where they went .... all though the room is "Filled With Smoke." Speaking of cigarettes ... she held the "WORLD'S RECORD" for the longest inhale and longest ash on the cigarette. She could get mad and cuss you in a second and go on as if it never happened in only a few minutes time. She loved her family very much. And a voice? She loved to sing and remembered all the words to so many songs. She could have her pick of anything she wanted to eat and it was "BOLOGNA SANDWICH." She would make "CHUBBY CHECKER," look like a beginner with her dancing the twist. She was a master at diagnosis, she knew exactly who was crazy and she would certainly tell them so. She lived in her own world. One that would protect her from the real fears in life. She could be as happy as she chose to be. She could have her freedom to do as she pretty much pleased because no one wanted to mess with her when she was "IN A MOOD."
Many years earlier she made the best chocolate pie ever made. Oh my gosh, her fried potatoes were out of this world. She would stand on the back porch in the cold and beat by hand, her cooked fudge mixture until it turned from glossy to dull then put it in the long dish ..... the best chocolate fudge I ever tasted. She had a meal on the table "EVERY NIGHT." She insisted on Friday Evenings we have store bought Ham Salad, Potato Salad, and Baked Beans. Sundays were the best! She made a roast or meatloaf, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob with sliced tomatoes. She and her family all sat at the dinner table together every meal! She made sure on Sunday evenings we had "Hot Fudge Sundaes".
She had an obsession for cleaning. Her kitchen spotless at bed time. She scrubbed and waxed her floors on her knees, her sheets and towels smelled of the outside breeze where she had washed that day. She loved the show "I Love Lucy," and "My Little Margie." Then one day she went into her world and never came out.
So on this Christmas I know she has everything she wants because she is with God. No more lists or needs she has it all. No one deserves it more. I just want you to know Dear Mother I feel you here and I hear your voice. I miss you so much even though our relationship was "A Special Kind of One." We understood it ... you took my hand and showed me so. I know that, Your Christmas is truly a "WHITE ONE." "I LOVE YOU "

From Sunday on it is busy. Sunday morning church, then we sing at another church Sunday afternoon have to be there 4.45 and take food to share afterwards, I have been doing a large platter of egg / lettuce, ham / tomato sandwiches. Monday morning we have to be at Kyogle hospital half hour away by 9am to sing a program for the oldies, Monday night Awards night for the Christian school.
One of the old people in the church died yesterday and our ladies will cater for the morning tea or lunch after the funeral, it won't be Monday as that is our Minister's day off, I am hoping it will be Tuesday, and we have to make a cake or slice beforehand and arrive about 8am to set up the tables and make sandwiches etc, go to the funeral, then wait while they go to the cemetery, we serve the cups of tea or coffee, they usually aren't in a hurry as they might not have seen each other for a while,so by the time we have washed up it could be 2 or 3 o'clock before we get home, we had about 110 people last time.
Then there is a rehearsal for Cafe Church at 6 pm, as they are doing a sort of nativity tableau. The baby will be a long roll of material wrapped up to look like the baby Jesus, and somehow Ray is dancing with the baby and unwrapping the baby then gathering it and draping it on the Cross. I'm sure it will be better than that. Then there will be little boxes on the tables and people will be invited to write on it the present they are giving Jesus for Christmas, with the idea being that they will give themselves. Hope it all works out as usually it is very straightforward, a few choruses, a short talk, and supper. (I do my platter of sandwiches again).
If the funeral is not on Wednesday I will go to golf croquet and their Christmas party at the club
that I have already paid for.
We have to remember to get the car in for inspection for registration too, and take the dog for her vaccination
this coming week, (Barry has forgotten to make the appointments), as well as the housework, and getting our clothes and music ready etc.
Thanks for your interest and encouragement.
Love n Hugs n Blessings Jan
Hi All ..... We were gone all day yesterday doing errands and enjoying the day. While we were at Sam's yesterday, it surprised me at how many people are going into debt for Christmas. People were walking around with 2 and 3 carts. There was a guy in the next checkout that put over $1000 on his Sam's credit card. He was joking he had a year to pay for it. I've never charged Christmas. We have enough medical bills to pay for already. I couldn't imagine having Christmas bills hanging over my head all of the new year and then go do it again. What are your thoughts on this?
It's warmer today , high 50's. By Monday we will be in the low 70's. I think Christmas will be warm again this year. Last year we only had 4" of snow and about 3" inches of rain so we are in a draught condition right now. I pray we get the snow and water that we so desperately need. If we don't, stricter restrictions will go into place.
I wasn't feeling that great this morning so I have played hooky and stayed in bed until noon. after I got Michael off to work at 5:00 AM. He will be here soon and I need to at least load the dishwasher ... LOL!!!! It's nice to play hooky once in a while ....
Hugs,
Deanna from Roanoke, VA
I love WWWCOF! I''ve never met such a wonderful, loving, group of people in my life! Everyone is so caring and appreciative of each other. I know I for one, so love you all. God Bless You, Cindy from Phillipston, MA
We are going to have a very nice Christmas this year, not because of expensive gifts and such but because if nothing happens I will have all 3 of my children and grandchildren together for the first time in years. We will having our "get together" on December 20th and then on Christmas Day we'll have lunch with my friend Barbara and her family(who are also my in-laws) and then have supper as we call it with Don's daughters and grandchildren.
I hope you are having a good week. Wanda from Thomasville, AL

Our car is fixed at long last!
Doug left for work as usual this morning but the car broke down
outside of Eustis. He called me and asked me to have his boss
Faith pick him up. Well she got confused and looked for him at
the wrong place , then she called me and told me to tell him
to take the day off and get the car fixed.
Well we did get it back into town and now it is running
like it should and purring like a kitten.
The end of 2 months of struggling with it. Betsy from Florida
Random Acts of Kindness
We are living in a time of great change. The members of the WWWCOF are a part of this process and constantly we display how capable and ready we are to rise to the challenges in which we find ourselves. By reflecting on our own lives we make any changes necessary to fully support our members and our planet. Here are this week's examples of how we show the way with love.Hello Just a few words about Haley and Santa. Today Haley had to go to the doctor because she has a very red and nasty throat with a low grade fever. Doctor said it was good I brought her in because the throat swab showed beginning of strep. She was very down and just not feeling well. We stopped at the mailbox on the way home and there was a small package for her From "SANTA." She got so excited and forgot her throat for a while. We got home and I let her open it. Santa wrote her a great letter telling her how good she has been for the year and how proud of her he is. He sent her the cutest doll made from a wooden block and wooden ball and blond curly hair like Haley's. She was so excited. She is trying to think of just the right name for her. The great part of all this is: One of our Dear wwwcof Family members made it and sent it without us knowing. I want each of you to know this person wants to remain anonymous although I do want you to know she is a very special person and she just made a bad day for Haley the best. "THANK YOU SANTA." Charla from Florida

I hope each of our new members join in on our little friendly challenge and play our Trivia Quiz Game hosted by Aussie Jeanette.

Yesterday our temperature was in the middle 80's but seemed even warmer. We have had a few cooler days, even had a few frosts but it will be cold one day and then go back into the 70's and this week we had record breaking temps. Our temps in the spring are cooler than it is now in the middle of December. I don't like really cold weather too much but your snow sounds good to me right now because I can bundle up and keep warm and the heat gets to me really bad. Wanda from Thomasville, AL

Raining here ..... dreary but I really don't like snow. I know it is pretty, but cold and awful to drive in, so I am sending you a little of what I do like. I was in Chincoteague when I wrote this. This is my kind of day. Christine from Greenwood, Delaware
Glory of the Sunset
The sun is shining ever so bold.
It's sewing into the waves as threads of gold.
Shining like diamonds that glistens so bright.
It's breathtaking like the stars at night.
The fish are jumping in the water,
the ducks basking in the warm summer light.
Their chicks wobbling and playing,
what a funny but, wonderous sight!
What a day God has made!
The galaxy moving on schedule guided by His hand.
The ducks are flying ever so proud
knowing when it is time to come and nest on land.
We hold our breath, keep still to listen
as the sun comes down like a huge ball and much redder.
The colors blend as one as it seems to melt into the sea,
it stills one in awe to look at such splendor.
When the day is over and the sun sinks low,
there is a peace as time moves forward.
Nature is still a phenomena that man cannot fathom.
Only God puts the sun, moon, and stars in one accord.
As the sun fades and the moon comes down
it is a miracle how they seem to blend.
What many wonder is this question;
where does the one began and the other one end?

Common Expressions - Origin & Meaning
Scot FreeMeaning - To escape pursuers or avoid payment.
Origin
Dred Scott was a black slave born in Virginia, USA in 1799. In several celebrated court cases, right up to the USA Supreme Court in 1857, he attempted to gain his freedom. These cases all failed but Scott was later made a free man by his 'owners', the Blow family. Knowing this, we might feel that we don't need to look further for the origin of scott free. Many people, especially in the USA, are convinced that the phrase originated with the story of Dred Scott.
The etymology of this phrase shows the danger of trying to prove a case on circumstantial evidence alone. In fact the phrase 'scot free' has nothing to do with Dred Scott.
Given the reputation of Scotsmen to be careful with their money we might look to Scotland for the origin of 'scot free'. Wrong again, but at least we are in the right part of the world now. A scot is a Scandinavian word for tax or payment. It came to the UK as a form of redistributive taxation which was levied as early the 13th century as a form of municipal poor relief. The term is a contraction of 'scot and lot'. Scot was the tax and lot, or allotment, was the share given to the poor.
Scot as a term for tax has been used since then to mean many different types of tax. Whatever the tax, the phrase 'scot free' just refers to not paying one's taxes.
No one likes paying tax and people have been getting off scot free since at least the 16th century. This reference from Vincent Skinner's translation of Reginaldus Gonsalvius Montanus's A discovery and playne declaration of sundry subtill practises of the holy inquisition of Spayne dates from 1598:

News from Argentina
Argentina now has a new president, the first lady actually elected, and wife of the leaving president. We had a lady president before also the wife of one, but with the difference she just took over on his death, and was removed by the military back in 1976 when I was still fresh out here. Certainly a year to remember. Not! So let's hope this one can make a better job of things. Her entry coincides with the start up of the 'Bank of the South' an international bank designed to help and integrate half a dozen countries in the southern part of south America can't get any lower than that!
Schools are now ready for the long, three month summer holidays. On Saturday 8th I had the pleasure of going to Circle member Charito's middle child's First Holy Communion, and afterwards there was a get-together of around 30 people crammed into their living room, where we all consumed a huge batch of Leo's famous pasties (empanadas)
On the Sunday we joined the rest of the family at a campsite where they had spent the weekend. The weather was very windy but warm, and a dip in the site pool felt as if you had to break the ice first. We had a chicken barbeque and fresh strawberries, and left before sundown. In the evening Leo and I went to see a close of the year folk show in a local theatre, and because we had been in the queue good and early we were able to get front row seats and thus good photos. It was an excellent show!

- I have been using Avast for years and you are right, its very good. I think its better than the one that originally came on my computer. I didn't think about telling the group about it, sorry. If anyone says anything to me about needing one, I recommend Avast. Have a good week. Hugs, Wanda from Thomasville, AL.
- I have that program it's pretty good. Pami from New York.
- I also downloaded it and used it. I only had one infection that had to be dealt with. Thanks for sharing Sharon. Norma from Clyde, Alberta, Canada.
- My computer, even though only a few months old, has been slow. I have had Avast previously and decided to download it. I currently have Avira AntiVirus Personal Edition Classic. I have Vista and did look at the requirements, and decided it would be OK, without actually checking. However it didn't work, it downloaded, then when checking I ended up with a black screen and messages about it may be unrepairable. I turned off and turned on again and the computer did a system restore, discarding the download etc. I had a look at my system, and mine is celeron 3.46, the requirement was pentium 4. Now this may have been the trouble, I don't know, or it may have been that I already had the other system, but it was scary. Love n Blessings, Aussie Jan.
- I can attest to this program I've been using Avast Anti Virus for over a year on my computer and I've had no problems. Its the only anti virus program I use now. Good luck with it. Mike from Groton, Connecticut.
- I have been using it for years and I love it. Works great. Cosby from New Mexico.

Native American Christmas
European Christmas for Native Americans actually started when the Europeans came over to America. They taught the Indian about Christianity, gift-giving , and St. Nicholas. There are actually two religious types of Indian people in existence. One of these is the Traditionalist, usually full-blooded Indians that grew up on the reservations. The second type is the Contemporary Indian that grew up in an urban area, usually of mixed blood, and brought up with Christian philosophy.
Traditionalists are raised to respect the Christian Star and the birth of the first Indian Spiritual Leader. He was a Star Person and Avatar. His name was Jesus. He was a Hebrew, a Red Man. He received his education from the wilderness. John the Baptist, Moses, and other excellent teachers that came before Jesus provided an educational foundation with the Holistic Method.
Everyday is our Christmas. Every meal is our Christmas. At every meal we take a little portion of the food we are eating, and we offer it to the spirit world on behalf of the four legged, and the winged, and the two legged. We pray--not the way most Christians pray-- but we thank the Grandfathers, the Spirit, and the Guardian Angel.
The Indian Culture is actually grounded in the traditions of a Roving Angel. The life-ways of Roving Angels are actually the way Indian People live. They hold out their hands and help the sick and the needy. They feed and clothe the poor. We have high respect for the avatar because we believe that it is in giving that we receive.
We are taught as Traditional children that we have abundance. The Creator has given us everything: the water, the air we breathe, the earth as our flesh, and our energy force: our heart. We are thankful every day. We pray early in the morning, before sunrise, the morning star, and the evening star. We pray for our relatives who are in the universe that someday they will come. We also pray that the Great Spirit's son will live again.
To the Indian People Christmas is everyday and the don't believe in taking without asking. Herbs are prayed over before being gathered by asking the plant for permission to take some cuttings. An offer of tobacco is made to the plant in gratitude. We do not pull the herb out by its roots, but cut the plant even with the surface of the earth, so that another generation will be born its place.
It is really important that these ways never be lost. And to this day we feed the elders, we feed the family on Christmas day, we honor Saint Nicholas. We explain to the little children that to receive a gift is to enjoy it, and when the enjoyment is gone, they are pass it on to the another child, so that they, too, can enjoy it. If a child gets a doll, that doll will change hands about eight times in a year, from one child to another.
Everyday is Christmas in Indian Country. Daily living is centered around the spirit of giving and walking the Red Road. Walking the Red Road means making everything you do a spiritual act. If your neighbor, John Running Deer, needs a potato masher; and you have one that you are not using, you offer him yours in the spirit of giving. It doesn't matter if it is Christmas or not.
If neighbors or strangers stop over to visit at your house, we offer them dinner We bring out the T-Bone steak, not the cabbage. If we don't have enough, we send someone in the family out to get some more and mention nothing of the inconvenience to our guests. The more one gives, the more spiritual we become. The Christ Consciousness, the same spirit of giving that is present at Christmas, is present everyday in Indian Country.
Native Christmas Wish
Oh Great Spirit
May we cherish the gifts of our creator
May we hold the beauty of the world close to our hearts
May we embrace the spirit of peace on earth
May there come to all people during this sacred season
an abundance of the earths greatest gifts:
health, happiness and enduring friendships
Charla's Prayer Requests
WWWCOF Members
I want prayers as my 6 month cancer check is coming up on the 19th. I'm already nervous which is pretty normal. I am also having problems with my legs. Varicose veins have shown up, maybe the start of an ulcer and they are afraid of a clot situation happening. SO, I'm putting my feet up more and I will be doing more crocheting and knitting than quilting for the rest of the month. Hugs, Deanna from Roanoke, VA
Chrissie, from London, England Chrissie was admitted back into the hospital for complications from her surgery. She is home now and here is a recent report
The first operation I had; you all know I had then came home, then was sick, I had never had a operation in my life and did not know what was suppose to happen, all I know is I was so sick.
The way it was suppose to happen was have the opp, come home in the afternoon, have two three days rest then back to work on the Monday.
Any way I came home a day later because of my low blood pressure, on the 28th, which was a Wednesday, as the days went on I got sicker and sicker and sicker I could not keep any food down and was violently sick every day, I had the doctor out on the weekend she said it was the painkillers and the anti-biotic the hospital had given me, then it went into the following week, by the Tuesday I call my doctor again, it was a catalogue of in-compendence all the way thru, to cut the story shorter on Thursday last week, I walked to the Doctors sat in Reception and when the doctor saw me I was being sick right in front of her, she got on the phone and call a ambulance that never turned up and I got in a cab paid out money got to the hospital nearly passed out as I got out the cab. To cut the story short again, I was in hospital again, still being sick, very ill, had no food for over a week, and looked like two eyes and no face.
It took all of Friday with many tests and a MRI scan that nailed it, what they had done was given me a hernia, that trapped my bowel, and I was lucky because the bowel did not die and they saved it, so on Friday Night I went down for Major Surgery, this time a real opp, they nearly killed me, even my kidneys were not working right, but they are lucky with that one too, I had no food until Sunday night and was on a drip, had a pee bag, and I was so ill, but just after the opp I felt ok, did not feel sick anymore and I was on the road to recovery.
I am so very upset about the whole thing, I had to use my whole next year holidays so when I do go back to work which will not be to after Christmas, I had no time off until next November. I am looking at the moment for compensation and this I am not going to let go, I am so mad at them.
I am crying because I have just realise just what I have gone thru, my very best friend Terry was there for me all the way and I love her very much to think I was in this house on my own all that time and could of died. She came and looked after Benji for me, it was that bad I don’t even smoke anymore.
It has taken me to read this to realise what I have just gone thru!!!

Please keep Cindy from Phillipston, MA and her husband, Vern, in prayer. Cindy recently sent this note to everyone to let you know that Vern Is in the hospital. He's at U-Mass right now. He started vomiting Sat. night at 11:30. Every time he moved he instantly got so sick! The room was spinning and he had a massive headache. This went on all night and by the early morning I called the doctor and an ambulance and they took him to Athol Hospital. From there they transported him to U-Mass for further evaluation. At first last night about 8:30 they thought he had an inner ear viral infection & they would treat the symptoms. Antibiotics only work on bacterial infections. So they gave him Ativan and some other drugs for nausea etc., thinking the best thing for him was to rest. Well he just called me and told me that they say now that it was a stroke, and that they will be sending him to a Rehab center! He had to hang up because a bunch of doctors were coming in, so I'm still waiting for details and to find a ride to see him some time today. I will do my best to update you all and in the meantime, please pray for us both!
This is a tough one with me in my condition and unable to drive! For those of you who know me well, you know how I like to be on top of whatever is going on and have all but lived at many hospitals in the past, so getting older and being unable to get where I want when I want is not something I'm handling very well! I don't like being here and my husband being there! So please pray for strength for me!
Thank you all!

Something to Think About
An eye witness account from New York City, on a cold day in December, some years ago: A little boy, about 8-years-old, was standing before a shoe store on the sidewalk, barefooted, peering through the window, and shivering with cold.A lady approached the young boy and said, 'My, but you're in such deep thought staring in that window!'
'I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,' was the boy's reply.
The lady took him by the hand, went into the store, and asked the clerk to get half a dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them to her.
She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and, removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel.
By this time, the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she purchased him a pair of shoes.
She tied up the remaining pairs of socks and gave them to him. She patted him on the head and said, 'No doubt, you will be more comfortable now.'
As she turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, and looking up into her face, with tears in his eyes, asked her, 'Are you God's wife?

Let's Do Lunch
Hello All,
Today Peachy Marie, Garnet & I met our Betsy for the first time at the Daytona mall. Betsy got there before us because we got caught up in the wonderful, "DAYTONA TRAFFIC." Betsy was having me paged right before we got in. Good thing we told each other what color we were wearing because we forgot to tell each other Aunt Peachy & I are 4'10'' and Betsy is 5'10"! Actually Betsy and I looked at each other and she was braver than me because she said my name first. While we were outside the mall I saw a woman in a pink blouse and said "Betsy?" She said "NO." I wasn't going to get looked at goofy again so I told Aunt Peachy next time it was her turn! Of course when Betsy spoke up first Aunt Peachy was off the hook. We introduced ourselves and headed to the Piccadilly Restaurant. It was a very nice place and had a great buffet to choose from. I was the only good one and didn't have dessert. We had a sweet waitress. Once we were full we gave Betsy a couple small welcome and hello gifts. Then we went to see Santa.

He was gone so we took some pictures by the beautiful scenery where the train for the children to ride is and they have a beautiful gingerbread house Betsy wanted to get pictures in front of but the sun was shinning in and the pictures wouldn't turn out. We talked and laughed and sat and talked. We took Betsy home and plan to see each other again soon. It was a great day and Thank you Uncle Garnet for being our Taxi Driver. Love to all from Garnet & Peachy Marie, Betsy & Charla.
Footnote to this lovely story from Betsy:
I had pot roast with garlic mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, 2 dinner rolls and coconut pie with sweetened iced tea. Charla and Marie gave me some nice gifts. Charla: a sweetpea scented bath set from Walmart and Marie gave me a cute snowman figurine trinket box. I wasn't expecting that at all. Charla said she is going to bring Haley to see Santa at Volusia Mall. I'm going to try to meet her there when she does that too. If it is on the weekend Doug will come along too. We visited for 2-3 hours then they dropped me off on the way home.
Is anyone doing a "Let's Do Lunch" with some of the other members? If anyone is planning something please let me know so I can pass it along to the members and then we all can "celebrate" cyberside.

Australian Report
"Crossing the Ditch"
I was vaguely aware, from the TV news, that two young Australians are paddling from Australia to New Zealand in a kayak, something that has not been achieved before, after a lone kayaker perished in an attempt earlier this year. Then I heard a radio report which mentioned their web site. They are using all the latest technology, though still physically paddling their craft, they have live tracking and send in photos and reports, and there is a map tracking their progress.

Initially they were planning to be in New Zealand before Christmas, but have had some hitches which has slowed them down, they had to dump the bilge pump, and the automatic desalination plant stopped working, meaning they have to manually produce their fresh water, which takes them away from paddling two hours each day. Also the headwinds and weather have been worse than expected.
They have some podcasts, and on one he mentions their first sighting of whales and being among them as emotional overload.
Facts and Figures
This Expedition will be:
- The first kayak across the Tasman Sea.
- The longest trans-oceanic expedition ever attempted in a double kayak with two expeditioners.
- The second longest trans - oceanic expedition relying solely on paddle power for propulsion.
- The fourth longest open water paddle attempted in a kayak.

-3000 miles (4827km) North Atlantic- Peter Bray

Daddy's Shoes
I was getting ready for work the other day and I've now switched to my boot work shoes instead of regular shoes because it's winter now and the snow is here! Anyways, I was upstairs getting my daughter ready, and she looks at my shoes and says "Daddy, what are those?" I said "Those are my boots, I wear them in the winter instead of my other shoes". She says "Oh. I don't like them."
Too funny, kids really do tell you exactly what they think! :) Dave from the USA.
News & Announcements
Health Watch
VNUS Closure ProcedureThis is what I had done yesterday (Dec. 5/07). My leg is a sore today because they had to take out some of my veins that were too large to do the procedure on. I go back tomorrow for a re-check.
The VNUS Closure procedure is a minimally invasive treatment for a condition known as superficial venous reflux, which can cause pain, swelling and varicose veins in your legs. The condition develops when the valves that usually keep blood flowing out of your legs become damaged or diseased.
The VNUS Closure procedure is performed in doctors' offices, surgical centers and hospitals as an outpatient (day surgery) procedure. Local or regional anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area. A thin catheter is then inserted into the vein through a small opening. The catheter delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy to the vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse, and seal shut. After the catheter is removed, a bandage is placed over the insertion site and your leg may be wrapped for a day to aid healing.
Mine is wrapped for 72 hrs. & I have to wear 30 gauge hose for 6 weeks. Lindalou from Tallassee, AL

Kitchen Tips
This week: Almonds
Consumers with a soft spot for almonds can take this to heart: researchers
have found that eating whole almonds, as part of a low-saturated fat diet,
can significantly lower heart disease risk -- even with total fat
consumption well above current dietary recommendations.
The researchers also found that the fat content of almonds does not
necessarily result in weight gain, and actually play a role in lowering bad Cholesterol . Some experts consider them an excellent substitute for meats.

Crafts
Baker's Clay Christmas Ornaments
Baker's Clay Ingredients:
- 4 cups flour
- 1 cup salt
- 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 cup water
Christmas Tree Ornaments:
Making decorations with Baker's Clay is limited only by your imagination. It's just like working with clay!
Make shapes.

Two of the easiest decorations for kids to make are the snowman and the teddy bear:
Snowman - roll three balls ranging in size from small to large. Attach head to belly by "scoring" lightly (make very small scratches in surface of clay) and brushing with water, then press the two pieces together gently. Attach belly to bottom in the same way.
Teddy Bear - roll two balls, one small and one medium. Attach as above. Roll four small cylinder shapes with flattened ends for the arms and legs. Attach to body as above. For the ears, pinch the top of head with thumbnail.
Wire hook - Use needle nose pliers to bend the end of a 2" piece of wire. Insert straight end of wire into the top of your shape, leaving the hook and about 1/4" showing at top.
Bake - Place shapes gently on cookie sheet. Bake at 300 until set and slightly golden.
Paint with a beaten egg when almost done baking for a golden look.
For colored decorations - use food coloring in the dough. (Don't use beaten egg on colored dough.) OR, simply paint with acrylic after baking and cooling, then use shellac to seal. You can also shellac a plain ornament, and then spray with gold or silver spray paint for a sparkling appearance. If properly sealed with shellac, your ornaments should last for years. Be sure to store in a dry place.
Take a look at the new "Crafter of the Month" page. Please make an album and put some of your crafting pictures into it. I will need plenty of pictures to choose from.

Swaps

I received my Christmas Swap from Betsy Burke this week, and boy was it awesome. She told me she went overboard, but I had no idea what that meant. Last Friday a parcel was delivered via UPS, that was huge: 24" by 18" by 12".
Inside was a collection of items, the likes of which I've never seen. I discovered she had three themes. Two of the themes were angels and bears (which referred to her online name. Se sent the most beautiful angel snow globe, that plays music and lights up. Also, a stuffed bear in a tin with candy, and a little bear figurine.
But the main theme Was Florida the sunshine state. For this I got a Christmas with southern Living cookbook, a canvas life ring that says Merry Christmas. She also sent a matching potholder and tea towel decorated with Christmas ornaments done in the pastel colors popular in Florida. The best a Florida Santa lounging in a deck chair surrounded by his surf boar and palm tree.
She also sent me the neatest book mark, called a bookmark thong, a chain with two tiny beaded ornaments on each end. As well I got some pretty Christmas place mats, She included several brochures, postcards and car stickers all about Florida. And finally the most beautiful Christmas friendship card with heartfelt words inside. Thanks so much Betsy!! Bigsis Pat's

Just for Fun
It will drive you nuts!! Have fun! The object of the game is to move the red block around without getting hit by the blue blocks or touching the black walls. If you can go longer than 18 seconds you are phenomenal. It's been said that the US Air Force uses this for fighter pilots. They are expected to go for at least 2 minutes.

Just ask Santa what you want and see what he has in his bag. I hope you like it as much as I did. Mike from Groton, Connecticut

Hello Miss Sharon. Mommy said I could write and say hello. It is almost time for my Birthday (December 10) you know. Mommy found me one cold morning in December laying along side the road and brought me home and cleaned me up and adopted me. I love being with her. She is a bit over protective though. She won't let Haley take me out of her sight. But she let's me & Haley play together. I told Haley about my friend Ruby. I really liked meeting her at the last WWWCOF reunion. I am sad though because she disappeared. Did you ever find out where she went? Wherever she is I know she thinks about me. Mommy puts me in front of the Christmas tree every year and I Love the lites. I have lot's of friends with Haley's dolls and animals. Santa sent her a new one yesterday but I haven't been able to be with her much because Haley slept with her and then took her to school for show & tell. I have to go now Mommy says it's time for lunch...yummy! I will talk to you again soon. Love Zachary from Florida
