Lets Do Lunch: Lets Do Lunch Updates

A warm welcome from Sharon,
founder of the Worldwide Circle of Friends

Hi everyone! I thought I would start this weekend issue with a message from Claudia, aka Recipe Lady:

Somehow I ended up at a site that listed this little gem and immediately thought of our group:

This Canadian charity, Teddies for Tragedies donates teddy bears to children in tragic situations around the world; recipients have included orphanages in Craiova, Romania, Lebanon, Costa Rica and Brazil. They have free teddy bear patterns and instructions, and ask you to mail your finished teddies to:

Teddies For Tragedies
c/o Gisele M. Toth
144 Sheppard Avenue West
Toronto, Ontario
Canada M2N 1M8

Don't ask me where I was!!!!! I think I was checking my mail, but one is never too sure these days. Herc is yelling "good morning" and "peek-a-boo," thus I think he is calling me into the living room to take the cover off of his cage. Crazy bird... Why would anyone want to get up to the mess he has to face these days? Little does he know that one of the jobs on my list of things to do is to give his cage a good clean-out and rearranging. Now, that ought to get him good and upset for the remainder of the day and we will end up watching "E.T." to get him back in a good mood.

Things are coming right along here in Chester --- they haven't kicked me out yet.

Love you Claudia, aka Recipe Lady

I think this is a marvelous idea. I visited the site and hope you do too. If enough interest is shown in this I would be happy to persue the formation of forming our own chapter of this organization - The World Wide Circle of Friends Chapter. Let me know what you think.

  • June 8/04 - Hi Sharon. I'm absolutely fine thank you. I seem to find plenty of things to occupy my day including having my granddaughter for breakfast each morning (her Mum and Dad have early work starts) and then she comes to us twice a week after school and goes to her other grandparents the other days. We were very fortunate to attend a concert that she was in last Saturday which took place at Manchester's purpose built concert hall she (along with other local schools) was singing with the Northern Chamber Orchestra in a concert called Gospels and Galaxies it was absolutely fantastic. Hope you are well. Best wishes and have a truly wonderful day. Love Hazel

sorry I was so late getting this email in the newsletter Hazel but I did want to share it with the members!

  • August 15/04 - Glad you enjoyed the wee e-mail, I just thought it was so cute. Bob and I haven't been able to get out camping as after we saw you at Marie's (yes it was his birthday that day) on the 25th we had to rush him into the emergency as he had terrible head pain. They did a brain scan on him and found a cancerous tumor on the right frontal lobe of the brain and it was bleeding.

Over the next 2 days they did a M.R.I. and it gave them a better idea what they were dealing with. On the 28th, they did surgery to remove what they could, he came through the surgery well, and I got him home on the 4th of Aug. Bob will need radiation therphy, about 30 and many brain scans. We are hoping this will take care of anything that was left. We will need to go every day except week-ends for 6 weeks to the cancer clinic. I would like to get him out with the gang camping at the end of the month as long as he is ok. I think it will do him good.

Thanks for the news letter.I will try to keep in touch in between running. I love the crest, I think it is perfect. Talk to you soon. Ontario Dorothy

News & Announcements

  • During the reunion we exchanged lapel pins from various places and this has really enhanced the collection of those of us who already have collections and it has started a new "collection" for a lot of the WWWCOF Members. During a chat in Messenger the other day we thought it would be fun to have a WWWCOF Pin Club.

Another collection that spread like wildfire throughout the Reunion was the collection of charms for the "Italian Charm Bracelets". We had so much fun doing this and would like to start a WWWCOF Charm Club.

Our Swap Queen has volunteered to be in charge of these two clubs and do expect more news on these as time goes on but do be sure to email Ruth to get your name on the list or for more details.

Members Questions & Answers

Q: I have a question and maybe a idea. People here are having a red hat party, one must wear a red hat, now also the ones here are wearing a purple dress if possible along with the red hats, just for fun. They all meet once a month? Have you heard about this new fad? It is growing so much I seen in Wal-mart all kinds of red hats. Bea

A:Hi Bea, yes I have heard of the Red Hat Society -- I think Ruth is a member. Are any of the rest of you involved with this? We "sort of" started our own "tradition"....but in the case of the WWWCOF it would have to be the Red Shirt Society. When I was met at the Windsor airport all of my new friends were wearing red shirts and when we met Daphne at the Detroit airport, we once again came adorned in red shirts. Pretty hard not to be noticed and we had a blast!

The Tips Jar

Hi Everyone. I don't think I received any tips this week ... if I missed one that you sent please email me with a gentle "nudge" to get it published.

    Claudia's French Toast Casserole

    1 loaf of raisin bread
One 8 ounce package cream cheese
    7 eggs
    3 cups milk
    1 tablespoon cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Slice and cube bread in 1" cubes. Cube cream cheese into small pieces and toss together into a slightly greased 9x13" casserole dish. Mix eggs, milk, cinnamon and nutmeg together and pour over bread mixture. Make sure that bread is completely covered. Refrigerate overnight or at least 5 hours. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes for a breakfast delight. Serve with maple syrup.

Be sure to check out all the wonderful recipes in the WWWCOF Cookbook and add your own favourites or email The Recipe Lady aka Claudia who will be happy to add them to our ever growing collection.

Remember to take a moment to enjoy looking at some pictures Pat, aka Bigsis, has published online for us.

  • Tilbury Times

I do not understand the whys or whatevers behind this so please bear with me.

I called the reporter who did the article on the WWWCOF Reunion in the Tilbury Times to get permission to reproduce the article which he gave and I asked him to email me the picture that was published in the paper but alas it has not arrived. Good news is that I have reproduced the article and I hope you enjoy it even if we do not have the picture!

      Here are the details:

The BIG move will take place August 31, 2004.

Anyone who needs/wants to mail anything to me (Ruth, Claudia?) can do so at anytime. If it happens to arrive before the 31st (fat chance of that eh?), I'm sure our daughter-in-law will let me know.

My Internet service should be up and running the same day I move email addy: bigsis63@sympatico.ca

However, if you have any problems getting me, you can always send to my Yahoo addy: bigsis63ca@yahoo.ca

I've booked the whole week off, from Monday, August 30th to Friday,September 3rd. So of course I will have to have my morning coffee so will be stopping by for coffee and chat.

In the meantime, I will try to get on for chat occasionally, but no promises.

      luv and hugs BigsisPat

Did we ever talk about a message that came from Liz (Canada) via Jeanette (Australia) to us at the Reunion!.

Ask us about it and perhaps take a moment to enquire as to just how fast Liz drove to Tilbury! Sorry Liz!

    To the Top

All kidding aside here is a message from Jeanette:

Hi, I am coming along well - doing lots of walking and resting - and we are going across to Bellbrae which is across the Bay from here for a week at the Time Share on the 27th August so that will be nice to have a change of scenery.

Weather here is now improving - we have had a very cold, wet winter and we are thrilled that the spring will be here on the 1st September.

Love to you there - talk soon - love Jeanette
