News From Argentina
Easter weekend here in Mar del Plata, was very pleasant weather wise, and the city was full of tourists. A walk along the seafront and I saw sand art, human statues and street artists, but the ones who attracted the biggest crowd was this group of Tango dancers. The building in the background is the Mar del Plata casino, said to be the biggest in South America.

Well, our Sharon has made a bold and positive move to come and visit Argentina in October this year. Can't wait, and looking forward very much to that visit. As well as meeting up with and getting to know the rest of the "Argentine Chapter", we plan on taking her to see a large part of this country and fill her with native activities. Is anyone else going to come???

A-list stars backing Britain's Got Talent's Susan Boyle
Susan Boyle's Britain's Got Talent performance has already been watched by millions of people online, including more than four million views on Yahoo! Video.
Now it's been revealed that the Scottish charity worker can already count A-list Hollywood stars among her fans after Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher praised her on Twitter.
Ashton was first to comment on her performance of I Dreamed A Dream, saying: "This just made my night."
His wife Demi replied to his message and revealed "You saw it made me teary!"
Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell will reportedly offer Susan a record deal whether or not she triumphs in the show.
Media interest in Susan from around the world has been intense following Saturday night's programme, including interview requests from radio stations in the US and Australia.
In the UK, the popularity of her performance has led to another recording of the song by Patti Lupone entering the midweek charts. Under the rules of Britain's Got Talent, it's unlikely that Susan's version will get a release until after the series ends - despite massive public demand.
The 48-year-old is already bookmakers' favourite to win the talent show at 5/2, despite only one of the audition shows having been shown by ITV.
What do you think of the performance? Watch it below

What a lovely Easter weekend I had and I hope that each of you had a wonderful weekend also.
Thursday I had the good fortune of having Princess "R" sleep over wth Grandma and we were joined on Good Friday by Kadynce.
Saturday there was an Easter Egg Hunt at my home for Kendra's step-daughter, Mirah. It was like a treasure hunt and it was such fun. Started at Kendra & Paul's home and ended up here. I would love to see this continue as an annual event. This was all Kendra's idea and she poured her heart and soul into this. It was her birthday on Saturday and yet she spent all her energies on this with little or no thought to herself. She is an awesome girl, my Kendra is.
I made Taco's as a birthday lunch for her and we had cake and there were a few presents for her.
Sunday Norman, Ashley and Kadynce were here for Easter Dinner -- Ham. Bigsis Pat was also here. Kendra and Paul and Princess "R" were at Paul's sister's for dinner -- I believe they had roast beef so I am hoping perhaps they might pop over today -- Monday for ham dinner leftovers!
What a weekend! Does not get any better than being surrounded by family and friends.
Report from the Land Down Under
The computer swallowed Grandma.
Yes, honestly its true!
She pressed 'control' and 'enter'
And disappeared from view.
It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
She must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.
I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the internet,
But nothing did I find.
In desperation, I asked Jeeves -
My searches to refine;
The reply from him was negative,
Not a thing was found 'onlne'.
So if inside your 'Inbox'
My Grandma you should see,
Please 'Copy', 'Scan' and 'Paste' her
And send her back to me.
Here is another one about how Grandma used to make cherry pies, but now she is on the computer all the time... Grandma

Common Expressions - Origin & Meaning
Copper-bottomed
Genuine; trustworthy.
If you come across something that is copper-bottomed these days, it is most likely to be a saucepan. In the 18th century, it would have been a ship. It is unusual for an idiomatic phrase to have such a literal derivation as this. 'Copper-bottomed' described ships that were fitted with copper plating on the underside of their hulls. The process was first used on ships of the British Navy in 1761 to defend their wooden planking against attack by Teredo worms a.k.a. Shipworms (actually a type of bivalve clam) and to reduce infestations by barnacles.
The method was successful in protecting ships' timbers and in increasing speed and manoeuvrability and soon became widely used. This piece from The London Magazine, March 1781, records the introduction of its use on all the ships of the Royal Navy:
Admiral Keppel made a remark upon copper bottomed ships. He said they gave additional strength to the navy and he reproached Lord Sandwich with having refused to sheath only a few ships with copper at his request, when he had since ordered the whole navy to be sheathed.
John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, may have been otherwise occupied. He is said to have once spent twenty-four hours at the gaming-table without refreshment other than some cold beef placed between slices of toast - hence giving name to the sandwich.
Before long, 'copper-bottomed' began to be used figuratively to refer to anything that was certain and trustworthy. Washington Irving, in his work Salmagundi, 1807, included this line:
"The copper-bottomed angel at Messrs. Paff's in Broadway."
It wasn't all plain sailing. Pay attention at the back, here's the science bit:
Copper and iron, when immersed in a suitable electrolytic fluid, like fruit juice or, at a pinch, seawater, form an electrochemical couple and the arrangement becomes a serviceable galvanic battery. Over time, the iron is eaten away to nothing by the electrochemical action.
That wasn't good news for mariners who fixed their boat's copper plates using iron nails - the iron eroded and the plates went to visit Davy Jones. Copper nails were the answer and soon afterwards ships began to be described not only as copper-bottomed but also copper-fastened. Such technically top-of-the-range ships were well thought of; an example is found in the 9th July 1796 edition ofThe Hull Advertiser:
She is copper-fastened and copper-bottomed, and a remarkable fine ship.
The expression 'copper-fastened' was and is used quite infrequently and is often wrongly taken to be a simple misstating of 'copper-bottomed'. Its meaning is similar but with the emphasis on security and lack of any ambiguity, rather than of certainty and trustworthiness. It had to wait longer to be taken into metaphorical use - until the 20th century in fact. An example of such is to be found in The Evening Independent, November 1948:
We had some striking examples of what happens when a guy gets so big for his britches that any pal of his is automatically a copper-fastened genius.

Synopsis
When their son Rowan was born, Rupert and Kristin's dream had come true. But the dream became a nightmare when their beautiful boy developed a disorder that left him incapable of communication, tormented by raging fits, requiring 24-hour care - and shattering their lives.
Then, one day, father and son were walking in the woods near their house and stumbled across their neighbour's old brown horse, Betsy. What happened next was unlike anything Rupert had ever seen. Certainly, the effect on Betsy was extraordinary: she went stock-still and bowed her head, wide-eyed and quivering before the child. But when Rupert lifted Rowan onto Betsy's back, the effect on his son was nothing short of miraculous: Rowan started to speak...
Shaken but exhilarated, Rupert proposed that the family make a journey to the ancient homeland of the horse, deep in the wilds of Mongolia, where he'd heard astonishing stories of healing and transformation. So began an epic journey on horseback, from their home in Texas to the furthest reaches of the planet - a journey that would test their love, challenge their beliefs, and change their lives.
A beautifully written inspiring read, with wonderful pictures.

You can make someone's day by simply sending a little note in for publication.
Today me and Bob visited Redwings Horse Sanctuary, 9 miles from where we live. They take in neglected and unwanted horses and donkeys and, in some cases, where the owner has died. It was a lovely day, and all the animals there was very well cared for and looked after. As you can see from the photo below I'm getting all loved up with 2 miniature horses! Aren't they cute?!

Thankfully it stayed sunny all day and we had a wonderful morning there. We spent about 3 hours there. Redwings have got, I seem to recall reading, about 100 horses and donkeys there covering 70 acres of land.

Their link is: Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Please feel free to take a look if you'd like to.

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood.
The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young
woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside.
"That laundry is not very clean", she said.
"She doesn't know how to wash correctly.
Perhaps she needs better laundry soap".
Her husband looked on, but remained silent.
Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the
young woman would make the same comments.
About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a
nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband:
"Look, she has learned how to wash correctly.
I wonder who taught her this?"
The husband said, "I got up early this morning and
cleaned our windows."
And so it is with life What we see when watching others
depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

Helpful Hints
Chrome Fixtures
Use new or used fabric softener sheets to shine the chrome-plated fixtures in your bathroom and kitchen. The chrome will sparkle like new! Also, for kitchen fixtures, don't toss your lemons after squeezing the juice! Rub the pulp on your faucet and wipe with a cloth for shiny chrome. Then put them through your garbage disposal to sweeten your drain. To easily wipe away soap scum and other junky stuff from your chrome fixtures and even look alike chrome, simply poor a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a cleaning cloth or papertowel and wipe it away, you don't even have to apply any pressure; it's amazing! This is a great tip because alcohol will kill the germs and it is streak free!
No More Flys, Gnats or Mosquitoes
To get rid of those pesky pests fill a spray bottle with Listerine (mouth wash) and simply spray it around at the first sight of flys, gnats, or mosquitoes. They will get the heck out of Dodge (your house or yard) because they hate the smell of Listerine!
Homemade Cleaner
Instead of buying all different and expensive cleaning products, take a spray bottle, and mix one third pine cleaner, one third ammonia, and one third warm water. It will clean everything from kitchen counters, to the bathroom floor, and everything in between. For tough grease stains, let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes. All you ever need to clean ANYTHING, is your spray bottle and a sponge!
Window Cleaner
Fill a spray bottle with three tablespoons of ammonia, one tablespoon of vinegar and cold water. (add a drop of blue food coloring and no one will know the difference.
Pour rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle. This is also great for bathroom mirrors and faucets because it's streak free and kills germs!

Spicy BBQ Spareribs
WWWCOF COOKBOOK
A spicy barbecue sauce perks up spareribs. Using the parboiling liquid gives depth and flavor to the BBQ sauce.
- 4 Pounds pork spareribs or beef ribs
- Water
- 1Teaspoon Vinegar
-
- 2 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
- 1 1/2 Cups Catsup
- 1 Cups Reserved Parboiling Liquid
- 2 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Teaspoon SALT
- 1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 Teaspoon Dry Mustard
- 5 Drops Tabasco Sauce
Cut ribs into serving pieces and place in a large Dutch oven or stockpot. Cover with cold water and bring to a boil. Parboil for 12 minutes. Remove ribs and place on paper towels to drain. Allow a few minutes to dry. Reserve 1 cup of the parboiling liquid.
Place ribs on a grill over hot coals and cook.
While ribs are cooking, make sauce. Using a whisk, combine vinegar and brown sugar in a small pot. Stir vigorously to dissolve sugar. When dissolved, whisk in catsup, water, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper mustard and Tabasco. Bring to a simmer and cook, simmering, for 10 minutes.
When sauce has completed simmering time, ribs will be done. Cook another 5 to 10 minutes basting continuously with sauce. When ribs are glazed to your liking, place on a large platter, and pour remaining sauce over all.
Coconut Mousse
Yield: 8 Servings
We imagine that biting into a cloud would be a lot like savoring a mouthful of this mousse, which dissolves gently into traces of coconut on the tongue. After the extravaganza of ingredients in the meal, this single-note dessert tastes so right. Found for us by Lena, April 2007 at Epicurious.com
2 Cup boiling-hot water
- 1/2 Lb unsweetened dried coconut-(2 3/4 cups)
- 1 (13- to 14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- About 1/4 cup whole milk
- 2 1/2 Tsp unflavored gelatin (from two 1/4-ounce packages)
- 1/2 Cup well-chilled heavy cream
- 4 large egg whites
Special equipment : cheesecloth
Garnish: toasted sweetened flaked coconut; fresh lime zest preparation
Pour boiling-hot water over dried coconut in a blender, then blend, scraping down sides as necessary, until combined well, about 30 seconds (use caution when blending hot liquids). Cool in blender until cool enough to handle.
Line a large fine-mesh sieve with several layers of cheesecloth and set it over a bowl. Pour coconut mixture into lined sieve and squeeze out as much liquid as possible.
Whisk together sweetened condensed milk and 1 cup coconut milk in a large bowl.
Pour remaining coconut milk into a 1-cup glass measure and add enough whole milk to bring total to 1 cup, then transfer to a small saucepan.
Sprinkle gelatin over milk mixture in saucepan and let stand 1 minute to soften, then heat over moderate heat, whisking occasionally, until gelatin is dissolved (do not let boil). Whisk into sweetened condensed milk mixture in large bowl until combined. Quick-chill by putting bowl in a larger bowl of ice and cold water and stirring occasionally until mixture is the consistency of raw egg whites, about 10 minutes. Remove bowl from ice bath.
Beat cream with an electric mixer until it holds soft peaks, then fold cream into coconut mixture gently but thoroughly.
Using cleaned beaters, beat egg whites with a pinch of salt until they hold soft peaks, then fold into coconut mixture gently but thoroughly. Chill, covered, until set, about 1 hour.
Cooks' notes:
Mousse can be chilled up to 1 day.
The egg whites in this recipe are not cooked. If salmonella is a problem in your area, you can use reconstituted powdered egg whites such as Just Whites.

I would also like some information on National/State/ or Provincial Parks members have visited or have within visiting distance from their home, to add to the parks section of the site
This is one of Argentine's many National Parks;
Los Cardones National Park
The Cardones National Park was created on 20th November 1996, becoming the third National Park of the province of Salta, North west Argentina, that already had two forest gems: El Rey and Barit National Parks.

Ir beautiful tall cacti that grow on the sides of its peaks (Trichocereus pasacana), are what give the national Park its name. Legend has it that according to the ancient population they are guards that control the valleys and mountains against the presence of intruders.
Its 64.117 ha. reserve a representative sector of the main Andes Biomass of northwest Argentina. It has an altitudinal difference that ranges from 2.600metres a.s.l in the bottom of the Tin-Tin Valley, up to5.226 metres a.s.l. in the Malcante Peak. It is limited mainly by the mountain chain and river valleys.
Climate
Most of the area has a purely arid climate: dry and warm with average winter temperatures of 11C with minimums just below freezing, and average summer temperatures of 18C with maximums of 30. Rainfall is few and far between, the annual average being less than 200mm which falls mainly in the summer
(November to March) though it doesn't rain the same in all areas nor does it get the same quantity every year.. Occasionally there can be snow fall in the valleys, and in the peaks the precipitation falls as hail.
Topography and soil
There are three types of environment: That of the hills with their pronounced relieve of solid rocks and rocky soil; that of the foothills and slopes, with more gentle slopes and accumulation of fluvial debris; and that of the lower depressions made ou of fine red dessert soil, salty and sandy brought down as river sediment.
The peaks show up for their variety of colours, ranging from several shades of red, blues purples and greens, and there are also many well conserved fossils remains of snails, algae, fish and dinosaurs
